A statewide survey of 600 likely voters in Florida was conducted by Grove Insight October 17-18 using professional interviewers. Quotas were set to ensure calling into cell phone only households. The margin of error is plus or minus 4.0 percentage points at the 95% level of confidence. The data reported here closely mirrors key demographics, including party registration, race, ethnicity and gender. The sample is 40% registered Republicans, 40% Democrats and 20% unaffiliated with either party.

The President Has a Slim Lead in Florida


Barack Obama now holds a small, threepoint lead in Florida, garnering 48% of the vote to Romneys 45%. The gender differences are narrower here but a gap exists nonetheless. Women (48% Obama, 44% Romney) give the President a slightly better margin than men (48% to 46%) do right now. The President also has a commanding lead with African Americans (92%) and receives majority support among the states diverse Hispanic population (55% to 38%).

By a large margin, Floridians believe President Obama is the one who understands middle class struggles while Romney is more out of touch. The President also has a lead, albeit more narrow, when it comes to trust, decision making and taking a long-term view. Voters are also inclined to believe that Romney is more likely to raising taxes on the middle class than Obama.
