Our Idea
We had originally planned on making treats for dogs, but due to the overwhelming controversy in the canine business regarding soy products, we decided to change the focus to horses. We believe this is the best course of action for us since we are both in the BBRM program with our major being Equine Business Management. We realize that there are an abundance of horse treats on the market and we want to create something different and innovative. Our idea is to create a treat that is also a healthy supplement for horses.

Objectives and Goals

Our objective for this project is to create a great-tasting treat that also has a good balance of macro and micro minerals and vitamins needed by horses. We want to be able to successfully find a good combination of ingredients that will be appealing to horses as well as be affordable for owners.

Significance to the Soybean Industry

Soybeans are currently not a widely used ingredient in horse treats and feed. This is because of the myth that raw soybeans are toxic to horses. It needs to become known that soybeans are actually a great source of protein for horses. Many veterinarians actually recommend soy oil as a positive addition to a well-rounded feeding program.1
