Math Lesson 1-Objective 1:

When given a multiplication word problem, students will interpret products of whole numbers by correctly identifying an array and finding the product of the problem.

Math Lesson 2-Objective 2:

When given a multiplication word problem, students will interpret products of whole numbers by correctly identifying an array and finding the product of the problem.

Science Lesson 1-Objective 3:

When given a chart and different animal characteristics, the student will be able to identify and explain how physical and behavioral adaptations allow organisms to survive (including hibernation, defense, locomotion, movement, food obtainment, and camouflage for animals and seed dispersal, color, and response to light for plants).

Science Lesson 2-Objective 4:

When given a pictures of animals in their natural habitat, the student will be able to identify and explain how physical and behavioral adaptations allow organisms to survive (including hibernation, defense, locomotion, movement, food obtainment, and camouflage for animals and seed dispersal, color, and response to light for plants).

Reading Lesson-Objective 5: After listening to the story Clever Beatrice, students will describe the characters in the

story (their traits, motivations or feelings) and explain how their actions contribute to the sequence of events.

Explain how the objectives are aligned with local, state, or national standards :
Math Lesson 1-Objective 1:
Common Core: 3.OA- Third Grade Operations & Algebraic Thinking Interpret products of whole numbers, e.g., interpret 5 7 as the total number of objects in 5 groups of 7 objects each. For example, describe a context in which a total number of

objects can be expressed as 5 7.

SC Curriculum Standard(s): Standard 3-2 The student will demonstrate through the mathematical processes an understanding of the representation of whole numbers and fractional parts; the addition and subtraction of whole numbers; accurate, efficient, and generalizable methods of multiplying whole numbers; and the relationships among multiplication, division, and related basic facts. SC Academic Indicator(s): Indicator 3-2.7 Recall basic multiplication facts through 12 x 12 and the corresponding division facts. 2nd Grade SC Academic Indicator: 2-2.5 Students interpret models of equal grouping (multiplication) as repeated addition and array *My lesson addresses all of these standards and indicators by asking students to read real-life word problems and find the answer by using repeated addition and drawing a model (array).

Science Lesson 1-Objective 3:

Content Standard C: Life Science a. Characteristics of organisms - Organisms have basic needs. For example, animals need air, water, and food; plants require air, water, nutrients, and light. Organisms can survive only in environments in which their needs can be met. The world has many different environments, and distinct environments support the life of different types of organisms. SC Curriculum Standard(s): Standard 3-2 The student will demonstrate an understanding of the structures, characteristics, and adaptations of organisms that allow them to function and survive within their habitats. SC Academic Indicator(s): Indicator 3-2.2 Explain how physical and behavioral adaptations allow organisms to survive (including hibernation, defense, locomotion, movement, food obtainment, and camouflage for animals and seed dispersal, color, and response to light for plants). *My lesson addresses these standards by asking students to identify characteristics of different habitats and characteristics of animals that help them survive in each habitat. Students take the role of a specific animal and determine its habitat, characteristics of the habitat, and characteristics of the animal that help it survive in the habitat.

animal that help it survive in the habitat. The purpose of this lesson is for students to show their understanding of habitats, animal adaptations, etc.

Reading Lesson-Objective 5:
Common Core: RL.3 -Describe characters in a story (their traits, motivations or feelings) and explain how their actions contribute to the sequence of events. SC Curriculum Standard(s): Standard 3-1 The student will read and comprehend a variety of literary texts in print and nonprint formats. SC Academic Indicator(s): Indicator 3-1.5 Analyze the relationship among characters, setting, and plot in a given literary text. *My lesson addresses these standards by having students listen to a story then fill out a graphic organizer that is used for analyzing characters in a story. The students should be able to tell physical traits, behavioral traits, feelings, etc. of the character being analyzed.

Discuss why your learning objectives are appropriate in terms of development; prerequisite knowledge, skills; and other student needs:
Math Lesson 1-Objective 1:
This objective is appropriate because students have prerequisite knowledge and skills of using repeated addition and arrays from 2nd grade. They are also working on learning their multiplication facts by heart so this lesson is a good last review of background knowledge for single-digit multiplication. This lesson includes real-life word problems as well, which is good for students to realize that multiplication is in our daily lives and we DO need it.

Math Lesson 2-Objective 2:

This objective is appropriate because students have prerequisite knowledge and skills of using repeated addition and arrays from 2nd grade. They are also working on learning their multiplication facts by heart so this lesson is a good last review of background knowledge for single-digit multiplication.

Science Lesson 1-Objective 3:

This objective is appropriate because students have previously been learning about different habitats, adaptations, physical and behavioral traits. This lesson allows students to model how all of these things flow together: an animal lives in this habitat, and the animal has these physical traits and these behavioral traits to help it survive in its habitat.

Science Lesson 2-Objective 4:

This objective is appropriate because students have previously been learning about different habitats, adaptations, physical and behavioral traits. This lesson allows students to be in the role of an animal, and think about their specific animal and what specific traits and characteristics it has and its habitat.

Reading Lesson-Objective 5:
This objective is appropriate because students know how to read, and they also have already heard the story Clever Beatrice. This lesson is an introduction/modeling lesson and allows students to analyze and think in-depth about a character.
