In 2009 there were over 409 thousand babies born from teen moms

Each year teen pregnancies cost tax payers over 9 million dollars

Problems Associated with Teen Pregnancies


Increased healthcare Increased foster care Increased incarceration rates Lost tax revenue because of school dropout rates

The teen birthrate in our community as per the County Health Ranking report in 2011 is 23 out of 1000

Teens need to learn how to protect themselves

STDs
1 in 4 Teens have had an STD

They need to place to get help

Nurse Led Clinic Free, Friendly & Confidential care

Accessible Clinic with hours before, during and after school

Increase the number of teens using condoms by 30 days after starting Increase the number of teens using oral, implanted or injected contraceptives by 30 days after starting Increase the number of males that participate by 30 days after starting Increase the number of pregnant teens that will seek prenatal care by 30 days after starting Decrease the number of teens with STDs 60 days after starting Decrease the number of pregnancies by 90 days after starting

Role of Nurse in Society

Nationwide there are over 250 Nurse-Led Clinics

Nurse Practitioners
Able to provide the same care as physicians at a lower cost They have higher patient satisfaction Need to encourage insurance companies to recognize the need for nurses to be able to bill for their services

Research studies have suggested that in order encourage teens to go to a clinic they have to be teen friendly, confidential, accessible, free of cost and staffed by clinics that are experts in interacting with teens.
