What is a found sound? 30 seconds to find a found sound.

Process & Personalization: (teaching sequence & student participation)
I'm going to start with a repeating pattern, and when I cue you, you'll add something that goes along with mine. Keep the pattern going! Pay attention, I might take you out or change the dynamics. What happened here? Did you plan what you were going to do ahead of time, or did you come up with something on the spot? Let's try it again and we'll go backwards. Do something that you didn't do before. Play your found sound in a different way if possible. I need a conductor for this next round. You can cue everyone in and then stop people. Keep the beat going and change dynamics. Was this a composition? Why or why not? Define improvisation. What were we each doing individually? Repeating a pattern. What is a repetitive pattern called? Ostinato. What are some examples of ostinati? Play different examples: "Ya" - Outkast "Eye of the Tiger" - Survivor "Cup Game" - Demonstrate "The Way I Am" - Ingrid Michaelson -basso ostinato
