LINE COMMUTATION:
Line Commutation is also called Natural

Commutation or Class F Commutation.

It is only possible when supply is AC.

It uses the alternating reverse AC voltage

for commutation.

Parameters:
The circuit turn off time tc = 1/2f = T/2
So tc is inversely proportional to the frequency tc should be greater then t-off thyristor t-off thyristor is the prescribed minimum Off time of

the thyristor. Firing angle(alpha) can be 0180.

Limitations of Line Commutation:

The fundamental limitation of a LC is its dependence

on an adequate stiff ac voltage source for commutation purposes. LC converters have difficulties to feed into weak ac systems and may take prohibitively long times to recover from disturbances. Firing Angle can be maximum of 180.

Advantage:
No extra circuit for commutation. Power Consumption is reduced.
