BALLYMENA councillor and former rugby international David Tweed has been convicted of vile and disturbing child sex abuse. Tweed, who is from Dunloy, shook his head as he was found guilty of 13 counts of indecent assault and gross indecency towards two girls a number of years ago. Before he was taken down from the dock, Judge Alistair Devlin told him: The offences with which you are charged are not only vile and wicked, they are particularly disturbing and distasteful crimes. Tweed, 53, who has now been expelled from the Orange Order and remains suspended from the TUV,
stood silent as each of the guilty verdicts were delivered at Antrim Crown Court yesterday. Neither of the two victims who are now adults were in court to hear the verdicts, but one relative said, We came here for justice... we just wanted justice, as she left the courtroom. During the course of the trial which lasted over three weeks, the jury heard harrowing and graphic accounts of the abuse which the girls were subjected to over an eight-year period.
