grade classroom or private lessons. Overall Goals/National Standards: 1: Listening to, analyzing, and describing music 2: Performing on instruments, alone and with others, a varied repertoire 3: Understanding music in relation to history and culture Behavioral Objectives: 1: Students will tune together from electronic A. 2: Students will warm up with scale used in up-coming song. 3. Students will play arpeggios and small exercises as part of warm-up 4: Students will air bow the first phrases of both the A and B section 5: Students will have correct finger placement for some of the harder sections 6: Students will begin to play with a good vibrato 6: Students will correctly play broken down sections of the new piece 7: Students will put some of the parts back together for extended parts 8: Students will play through piece.1 and 2 Prior Learning: Knowledge of instruments and ability to play in 1-2 positions Beginning understanding of reading music Good Posture Last rehearsal Material: 1: Death of Ase for all students 2: Electric tuner 3: Instruments for all students with fine tuners 4: Music stands for all students Procedure: 1.Opening -Students will come in and get instruments out as music is playing -Students will be lead through short exercise to be sure they are relaxed 2.Tuning -Students are just getting used to tuning by themselves so we will first make sure all instruments are tuned -A string (or the harmonic A for bass), then they will use harmonics and open fifths to tune other strings checking against each other at each string 3. Death of Ase -We will begin at the first eight measures of A -First we will play the piece to see where the students are at -Make sure the bowing and fingers are correct across the board -Play it again focusing on bowing and fingers making sure to give them bowings from the podium as well as the beat -Play it again this time focus on dynamics and emotion -The teacher will play the eight measures, with a good vibrato to model what is desired -Have the students play some vibrato exercises, and try playing the eight measures with vibrato -Next except will be the divisi section, this section has the highest positions for all the instruments -Play the lower part across all the parts first, with good vibrato and bowing -Then play the lower divisi, and second part in cello added

-Now everyone will play the higher part, slowly, same bowing but new fingers and position out of rhythm just to get comfortable with the position -Then will play the highest and add the middle cello part, and then add the lower part in rhythm -Lastly will play all divisi parts together, will good intonation and bowing/finger placement Closing: -After the hard work that the students put in, we will play through our other pieces, which at this point they will have a pretty good understanding of, and we will be working on the musicality and musicianship instead of Notes Assessment: -Informal, teacher will listen to their warm-up and scales and make corrections to intonation and finger patterns -Question, provided by teacher, answers by students will give teacher good indication about where they are within the information Evaluation: -What components worked well? -What components were not so successful? -What changes could be made to improve lesson plan?
