Jackie Garcia Period 6 In Christopher Columbuss letter to the treasurer of Spain he describes the Caribbean islands.

In this letter, Columbus describes the trees, people, fruits, birds, and the land. He sees several distinctions between the different islands that he names Santa Maria of the Conception, Ferdinanda, Isabella, Juana, and so on. Columbus is amazed with the beauty of the islands, specifically the trees. He says that the trees on the islands are very tall and beautiful. Much more beautiful than the kinds they have in Spain. He also notices that there is a great variety of things such as birds, honey, and plants. Columbus notices that on different islands, there are different resources. Some islands have different types of fruits and spices than others. Another factor that Columbus points out is the people on the islands. He says that in all the islands there is no difference between the people, they all look and act the same. These people have manners and are trustworthy. They are grateful for what and who they have. Columbus also says that they do not know what weapons are. These people live peacefully on the islands with each other. This document is significant to history because it impacted peoples views on the world. With this document people at that time became more interested in world exploration. They wanted to know more about theses foreign places. The way Columbus emphasizes the beauty and various resources on the islands makes it seem like there could be much more. This influences the colonization of the Americas and the need for more discoveries throughout the world.
