A room or a building in which scientific investigations are carried out. It is the place where we study science.

Accidents happen everywhere including Science Lab. So how do we prevent accidents from happening?

1. Light up a match / lighter before you turn on the gas on the Bunsen burner.

1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Close the air hole by turning the collar. Bring a lighted match to the top of the barrel. Turn on the gas slowly. Adjust the collar until a steady blue flame is obtained. To obtain smaller flame, close the air-hole a little or reduce the gas flow and vice versa.

Bunsen burner produces 2 types of flame :Yellow colour
Air-hole is closed A lot of soot Incomplete burning

Blue colour
Air-hole is opened Less soot Much more HOTTER !! Non-Luminous Flame

Some chemicals in the lab are harmful to our body. Thus, hazard symbols are used to show nature of the substances. These symbols can be found on the labels of the chemical bottles / containers.
