Discussion of options for future conferences. 2014 includes Halloween date o Need for cost analysis in looking at other venues/locations o Sat/Sun: Sunday could be strands, admin day, special in-depth workshops o May be bigger draw and grow conference if change location even if can come for one day o Look at break-even number? About 3000 o Need to consider how large the venue needs to be o What is Palm Springs like on a Halloween weekend? o Flip and make Saturday the bigger draw day in terms of sessions o Stay in Palm Springs for the branding factormake it family friendly Consensus: Look at other options for 2014 and beyondpresented three 50-50 split Not necessarily averse to holding Halloween conference Will bring back to Board an option to vote on at January meeting Local, State, and National Business National: Formal affiliation with NCSM NCTM Report Carol Treglio, Reasoning Institute in Los Angeles was very good! Continues with online professional development and eseminars. Website has online math tools for geometry, algebragraphing calculator; open for all students by simply downloadinggood for practice with online common core assessment piece Think about a proposal for a resolution to take to delegate assembly in spring Reports CMC State Committees: Diana CejaCommunications: job description for CMC webmaster, which is a stipend position. Old/New Business and Committee Business CMC-South Committees: Executive Board Shared three SMART goals Thumbs up/down with a majority thumbs up for approval of EBs SMART goals 1. Active Participation/Exchange of Resources Give-one-Get-one: STEM = example of how that would work. Board members given time to share out 2. Broaden Professional Networks across and within southern California Invite to our meetings both formal and informal partners. Balance learning and networking during Bd Mtgs 3. Increase So Californias mathematics education communitys access to information Use of social media to increase active engagement and expansion of information area CaCCSSM Committee Diane Kinch, Chairperson, co-chair Dina Williams shared update of progress on the committees SMART goals since May board meeting. Common Core Math Circles ready for both Leadership conference and Palm Springs Mathematics conference Bookmarks with Pat Smiths 5 steps were previewed and applauded ComMuniCator ReportJanet Trentacosta, Editor Recap of STEM theme that is being published in time for fall conference. Janet noted the challenge of ensuring that mathematics is part of the submitted activities. The panel has worked diligently to integrate mathematics with technology or mathematics with engineering. This may be the first of this type of math work
