This is where you will find Gyeongbukgung Palace, the location of which was determined to be an auspicious site according to Korean geomantic principles and the Korean Presidential Residence, Cheongwadae (Blue House). At present, it is home to numerous government agencies and foreign embassies. Built in 2009, Gwangwhamun Square has become a popular place for visitors.

Built in 1395, Gyeongbokgung was the main royal palace and heart of the Joseon Dynasty for 500 years. The remaining halls include Geunjeongjeon, where official ceremonies were held, and the private quarters of the king and queen. The National Palace Museum of Korea - which showcases royal culture - and the National Folk Museum of Korea - where the life cycles of Koreans in the olden days can be observed - are within its precincts.

2 Gwanghwamun Square

This is a 550m-long, 34m-wide square constructed at Sejong-ro in 2009. Statues of the two most respected historical figures in Korea King Sejong the Great and Admiral Yi Sun-shin stand in the square.

1 Deoksugung (Palace)

Deoksugung (Palace) was first built as a royal residence, but it became a palace when the king stayed there after the Japanese Invasion in 1592. Western style buildings were built here during the Japanese colonial period, making it the only palace with modern buildings. Seokjojeon, one of these modern buildings, now accommodates the National Museum of Contemporary Art.

2 Seoul Plaza

This is a lawn plaza in front of Seoul City Hall. Here, various events including mini concerts, outdoor exhibitions and flea markets are held every weekend. During winter, a skating rink is set up for visitors to enjoy ice skating at a reasonable price.
2-1 Seoul City Hall building The New City Hall, Seouls brand new landmark. It is an eco-friendly building with the worlds largest indoor green wall. 2-2 Seoul Metropolitan Library The former Seoul City Hall, established in 1926, is now coming to citizens as Seoul Metropolitan Library. 3 Chongdong Theater

If you want to experience the best of traditional Korean performing arts, you should definitely visit this theater. Along with MISO, a regular traditional performance held every day at 16:00 and 20:00, the theater offers hands-on experience programs such as one on how to play the janggu (a traditional percussion instrument).

4 Seoul Museum of Art

You encounter the museum while walking along the stone-wall road of Deoksugung (Palace). It holds exhibitions of such worldfamous masters as Chagall, Matisse and Picasso each year, as well as contemporary artwork by Korean and foreign artists.

Jongno literally means a street with a bell. This area has a distinctive atmosphere generated from the combination of business and traditional culture. The restoration of Cheonggyecheon (Stream) in 2003 has turned it into one of the key tourist areas in Seoul. Another real gem is the jewelry shopping street that runs for blocks between Jongno 1-ga to 5-ga.

1 Cheonggyecheon (Stream)

This is a 5.84km-long stream flowing from Gwanghwamun to Dongdaemun. It was originally a natural stream, but was covered with asphalt and used as roads. Then, in 2005, it was once again changed into an ecological stream after a restoration that took three years. It has attractions including 22 bridges, nine fountains and relics from the Joseon Dynasty recovered during the restoration process.
Gwangtonggyo (Bridge) A bridge built during the Joseon Dynasty and excavated during the restoration process and recreated. 2 Jongmyo (Royal Shrine)

This is a Confucian shrine where memorial tablets for kings and queens of the Joseon Dynasty are kept and memorial services are offered. It is the worlds largest remaining single wooden structure built in the 14th century and was listed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site in 1995. Jongmyojerye, the memorial service offered every May since 1464, is one of the oldest ancestral rites maintained today, and was designated as one of the Masterpieces of the Oral Tradition and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2001.

This is a key historic site where 33 representatives of the March 1st Movement of 1919 recited the Korean Declaration of Independence from Japan and shouted for independence. In the park, the Ten Storied Stone Pagoda of Wongaksa Temple Site, the countrys National Treasure No.2, and the Monument of Wongaksa, Treasure No.3, remain as they did in ancient times.

4 Bosingak (Belfry)

During the Joseon Period, the hours of the day were announced here by tolling the bell. This practice from the past is reenacted daily, even to this day. A bell-tolling ceremony is held on January 1st to mark the new year.

Various cute household items and traditional handicrafts are mustbuys in Insa-dong. It is quite fun to find so many different kinds of items. Ssamzie-gil, where design goods reinterpreting tradition in modern ways are sold, is highly popular.

[Traditional Korean Dishes and Traditional Teahouses]

There are a lot of teahouses in original Korean-style houses and hanjeongsik (Korean traditional set menus) restaurants with traditional interiors in Insa-dong. Snack carts selling temple food and time-honored snacks including kkultarae (honey skein) and tteok (rice cake) on the streets add to the unique atmosphere of the area.

Bukchon is a small village of hanoks (Korean traditionalstyle house) located between Gyeongbokgung (Palace) and Changdeokgung (Palace.) Today, families still make their homes in these 900 traditional houses. 3 Changdeokgung (Palace)

This was originally built as the secondary palace of Gyeongbokgung (Palace) in 1405; its structure remains closest to the original among the palaces of the Joseon Dynasty. Halls are built along the mountain slope and gardens are designed to preserve their natural states as much as possible, leading to a perfect harmony between nature and artificiality. For this reason, the palace was listed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site in 1997.

The temple was built in 794 CE. During the Joseon Dynasty, it was the largest temple in Seoul, and the magnificent splendor of the old days still remains here. The temple, where people can experience Buddhist culture in the center of the city, is highly popular among tourists.

Hanyang Doseong(fortress Wall)

Seoul Koreas capital and a metropolis with a population of over 10 million. However, beneath its surface lies the 500-year era of the Joseon Dynasty. It has five royal palaces where kings and queens used to reside, as well as royal shrines and royal tombs that have served as their spaces after life. Royal Tombs of the Joseon Dynasty

Tombs of kings and queens of the Joseon Dynasty; among the total 44 tombs, 40 are registered as UNESCO Cultural Heritage sites, and six of them are located in Seoul. The palace was built in 1483 by King Seongjong. During the Japanese colonial era, a zoo and a park were set up in the court, but the palace has regained its old splendor after restoration. Honghwamun, its main gate, and Myeongjeongjeon, the main hall, are renowned as representative examples of the 17th century architectural style of the Joseon Dynasty.

Gyeonghuigung (Palace). .

It was an enormous palace with more than 100 halls during the Joseon Dynasty. At present, the main hall, foundation stones and a dense forest at the back of the palace remain, showing the traces of its old days. Thus, it is often used as a filming location for historical dramas. Each year, musicals set in royal court are performed in front of Sungjeongjeon Hall, breaking the stillness of the palace.

The modern structure built in the 1920s used to be the center of transportation that linked Seoul and cities all over Korea. This was built in commemoration of the 2002 Korea-Japan FIFA World Cup. The site used to be a landfill, but now it has been turned into an ecological park with wetlands, flower beds, a yacht field, an observatory, etc. It consists of five parks with different themes, including Pyeonghwa Park where World Cup Stadium is located, Haneul Park, Noeul Park, Nanjicheon Park and Nanji Hangang Park.

This is the executive office and official residence of the President of the Republic of Korea. It is open to the public from Tuesday to Friday, but visitors are restricted from entering the buildings, where state affairs are officially handled. Incheon Intl Airport This is the gateway to Korea with the 8th largest number of passengers in the world. Its world class facilities and services were recognized by the fact that it received the International Air Transport Associations Best Airport Award and was chosen as the best airport in the Airport Service Quality Awards presented by the Airports Council International for six consecutive years. Gimpo Intl Airport The airport is located within Seoul. It operates both domestic flights and international flights including those between Gimpo and Japan (Tokyo) and Gimpo and China (Shanghai). There are large-scale outlets, multiplex theaters and giant marts in the airport.

Weather in Seoul
Korea has a temperate climate and four distinctive seasons. When you visit Seoul, you are advised to prepare clothes and personal items suitable for the season. Spring (Mar.-May) Sunny and warm weather is common. However, visitors are advised to bring warm outer clothing because of sudden cold snaps and large daily temperature ranges. Summer(June-Aug.) With sweltering weather and an average temperature of 27C, it is recommended that you bring light clothes that absorb sweat well. During the rainy season between mid-June and early July, it may be a good idea to bring umbrellas, raincoats or rain boots. Fall (Sept.-Nov.) The weather is sunny and warm, but it starts to get chilly in the mornings and evenings. Visitors are advised to bring knitwear or light windbreakers. Winter (Dec.-Feb.) It is cold and dry at around -6~7C. It often snows, so visitors are advised to bring hats or umbrellas. It is also necessary to carry gloves, scarves or masks to keep out the cold.

Currency
The Korean currency unit is the won ( \, KRW). You can exchange currencies in airports, exchange booths at mega shopping centers and banks. It is also possible to use US dollars in duty-free shops in Seoul.

Electricity
The standard voltage in Korea is 220V, and most plugs have two round pins. You can use any lower voltage electronic devices in Korea with the help of a boosting transformer. A lot of major hotels in the city have such transformers, but it would be better to prepare battery-operated products or a multi-voltage travel adapter.

Internet
Most hotels are equipped with an Internet connection, which customers can use conveniently. If you have a notebook computer or smartphone, you can also access the Internet through WiFi in restaurants or cafes. If you need a password, you can ask the owner or manager of the shop.

Public Transportation
Subway Seoul Subway has nine routes from Line 1 to Line 9. These nine lines, in combination with Jungang Line, Bundang Line and Gyeongui Line, form the metropolitan railroad network. Each line has its own designated color, which is used on subway maps and signs in subway stations to enable not only Seoul citizens but also foreign visitors to use the subway without difficulty.
[Single journey ticket for subway] If you dont have a T-money or Seoul Citypass, you should purchase a single journey ticket every time you use the subway. If you insert a deposit of \500 and your fare into the vending machine installed at each subway station, a ticket is dispensed. After you arrive at the destination, you can return the ticket using the Deposit Refund Device and have the \500 deposit refunded.

Buses Seoul city buses can be distinguished by their colors. Blue buses cover long-distance routes within Seoul, green buses run short-distance routes within the city, yellow buses run circular routes in central Seoul, and red buses run express routes between the city and the metropolitan area. Taxis A taxi is a convenient means of transportation that takes you straight to your destination. Taxi stands are located in numerous corners in Seoul, and you can catch a taxi anywhere on the streets by holding out your hand. There are regular taxis, deluxe taxis and van taxis.
[International taxis] These taxis have been prepared for convenient transportation of foreign tourists who visit Korea and are operated by drivers who can speak foreign languages.
