EXPERIMENT : DYNAMIC NEWTONS SECOND LAW

Objective :

a) To determine the relationship between velocity respect and time b) To determine the acceleration of the motion of the trolley c) To find the constant force exerted on the trolley

Theory : The equation of Newtons motion for any mass m that move in the velocity respect to time will give force F onto it that given by F = ma where a = dv dt or is an acceleration F = m dv dt

Acceleration a can be derived from the slope of the v t graph as shown in the Figure 1 : v

dv = a dt t Figure 1 Apparatus : i) Trolley without friction ii) Runway plane iii) Timer iv) meter ruler V) dotting paper tape

Figure 2 Procedure : a) Set up the apparatus as in the Figure 2. b) Clamp the paper tape with a stapler on the experiment car and keep it equal level height with the working dot timer. c) Press the center lock piece button to loose the lock piece to let the car leave from the brake axle. Start the dot timer and stopwatch simultaneously. Stop them when the car reaches the bottom of the track. d) Take the dotting paper tape out from the system. e) Find x and t from the dotting paper tape obtained.

Then find

. Jot down all the data in the table as shown below :

f) Plot graph v vs t. Finally, find the slope of the graph obtained. g) Repeat step (a) to (f) for 4 times.
