You May Have Drapetomania

By MoHagani Magnetek

Do you ever wish you could just cast off the chains and runaway? Do you long for the
unalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness?

Well if you are constantly feeling symptoms of the need to runaway, you may need to be seen by
your doctor immediately. You could be suffering from Drapetomania, an illness that causes
slaves to desire freedom. When you find yourself no longer content with slaving 9 to 5 for little
or no wages and no appreciation, you are experiencing an acute case of Drapetomania. If you
cannot envision an end to your servitude, yet you still desire to be free, you may be suffering
from chronic Drapetomania and there is absolutely no cure for you except to have the shit
beaten out of you.

According to the scientific study of slave mental health disorders, in 1851 Dr. Samuel
Cartwright said, The cause in most cases, that induces the Negro to run from away from
service, is such a diseased of the mind as in any other species of alienation, and much more
curable, as a general rule." In Diseases and Peculiarities of the Negro Race,
Cartwright writes that the Bible calls for a slave to be submissive to his master, and by doing so,
the slave will have no desire to run away. In the case of slaves "sulky and dissatisfied without
cause" a warning sign of imminent flight Cartwright prescribed "Whipping the devil out of
them" as a "preventative and curatiive measure".
