STANDARD PRACTICE [CONFIDENTIAL]
a
1. SCOPE
(1) This standard practice provides the guidelines for the sizing of piping system in refineries, petrochemical
plants and similar plants
Gas or liquid pipelines are outside the scope of this standard practice.
(2) Specific instructions given in the Project Specifications have precedence over the requirements given in this
standard practice.
(3) No alternation from the Project Specifications and this standard practice are permitted unless otherwise
specified.
2. WORK PROCEDUR!
2.1 Input to the Design
2.1.1 Process Conditions
‘The data to be used for the hydraulic design, such as the flow rate, temperature, pressure and so on should be
clarified on the following:
(1) Source of the data
‘The design data will be obtained from, but not limited to, the following documents;
Process Flow Diagram (PFD)
Basic Engineering Design Data (BEDD)
Piping & Instrument Diagram (P&ID)
Plot plan
Equipment data sheet
Piping material specification
(2) Operation case to be taken as the design base
(G) Related documents to be used as a part ofthe input data,
(4) Related documents to be checked or revised based on the results of hydraulic design
‘The data to be used for the hydraulic design should be distinguished into changeable data and unchangeable data
asa consequence of the hydraulic design.
2.1.2 Input Dat:
‘The following is a summary of input data to be prepared before the hydraulic design
(1) Operational data
~ Service for identification
- Fluid name for identification
= From-To for identification
- Flow rate(s) of liquid and/or vapor
~ Temperature
Pressure
~ Physical properties
Liquid service: Density, Viscosity, Vapor pressure, Critical pressure, SpGr @15°C
Vapor service: Density, Viscosity, Molecular weight, Cp/Cv, Z-factor
Two-phase flow Densities and Viscosity for both liquid and vapor and Surface tension
(2) Construction data
- Line class
~ Elevation at inlet and outlet of piping system
- Distance between source and destination, sum of XYZ coordinate length.
Instruments, types and quantities
- Valves & fittings, types and quantities, if available.
= Control valve(s)
~ Pump(s), compressor(s) and blower(s)
) Design requirement
