The importance of establishing an intellectual climate where learning is the prime focus in schools reveals itself in the work of John Hattie (Visible Learning), Art Costa (Habits of Mind). Effective teaching stands at the pinnacle as the most signicant element impacting on student learning and central to this is the role of assessment, particularly formative assessment and feedback that informs student growth and activates a sense of personal responsibility for learning.
