Encomienda System

Shortly after Legazpis establishment of the seat of government in Manila, he dividied the country among his men for purposes of practical administration and a reward for their services was granted.

Encomienda is a grant (as privilege) originally extended by the king to the religious orders and charitable groups or to royal officials of the king.

BANDALA SYSTEM
Impelled the Filipino producers to sell their products to the Spaniards at price rates imposed by the Spanish authorities.

Tributo = 10 reales Diezmos prediales (tithes or 1/10) = 1 Treasury = 1 real Sanctorum tax (church tax) = 3 reales All in all, an average Filipino will pay 15 reales.

TRIBUTES
Payment in a form of cash or products in recognition of Spanish authority and to shoulder the expenses of the colony.

An option to perform when Filipionos are unable to pay their taxes. Confiscation of their properties including lands has been rampantly practiceed by the colonial masters caused by this system.
