His contact information is rnorwo2@tigers.lsu.edu . Class Motto Only I, the student can decide if I pass or fail, no one makes this decision but me. If I come to class prepared and ready to learn on a daily basis I will succeed. My race, religion, gender or sexual orientation do not play a role in my success, for it is only by my merits and the level of my accomplishments that I will be graded. Therefore, I am ultimately responsible for my fate in this class.

Mr. Tates Philosophy of Teaching Learning requires three groups of people. 1) The teacher, I must come prepared every day to teach you, the students, I must also have the ability to listen to and understand the concerns of my students and their parents. 2) You, the student, must come prepared to learn, this requires you to be on time and have the necessary tools in which to complete the work assigned. This also requires you to strive to come to class mentally, emotionally and physically prepared to learn. 3) Parents, are a vital aspect to the learning environment, parents need to check up on their students periodically to ensure that they are doing what is needed to be done. Parents also need to feel free to contact the teacher over any problems or concerns so that the teacher can best address these issues. Grade Scale Based on Percentages 100-93 = A 92-85 = B 84-75 = C 74-67 = D 66 and Below = F Grades Homework: Points vary depending on assignment Participation- 100 points per Unit Bell Ringers- 100 points per Unit Blackboard Assignments- 10-50 points Quizzes- Points will vary Projects- 1 a Unit at 100-200 points Unit Test: 100 points per test Blackboard Each class will have a Blackboard course associated with it. The course will act as a supplement to class. It will have assignments and quizzes that students will be required to complete. It is your responsibility to find a way to fulfill these assignments. A copy of the class notes will also be available through the Blackboard course, therefore all students are required to have a complete notebook. Access to the course will be discussed in the first week of school. Projects Class projects will be based on either: crafts, presentations, book reviews or poster assignments.

Class Rules
As stated in the Class Motto, the student is ultimately responsible for their success or failure in class. It is with this in mind, that I tell students what I expect of them as students. 1. Students will report to class on time and be in their seats working on the Bell Ringer, when the tardy bell rings. 2. Students will be prepared for class, if they fail to do so, they will be able to use classroom supplies, if there are no class supplies available the student will receive a zero for the day. 3. Late work will be accepted only through a HEAT session, HEAT will be described later. 4. Make Up work must be turned in within three days of a student returning to school from the absence; as long as the absence is a school excused absence. 5. Students will raise their hand and wait to be called on. 6. Students will stay in their seats for the class period, unless given permission otherwise. 7. Students will not swear. 8. Leaving the classroom will be allowed by emergencies only. 9. If you abuse any privilege; it will be taken away. 10. Finally and ultimately, respect yourself, respect others, respect me as your teacher and finally respect your school. Behavior Plan I implement a four step behavioral plan. Step 1- Students are warned and fill out a four step infraction report Step 2- Students will be assigned remedial work to be signed by the parent. An email, will be sent to the parent discussing the behavioral issue. (If email, is not available, a phone call will be made.) Step 3- Parents will be contacted by telephone to setup a parent-teacher conference. Step 4- Student will be dismissed from class and sent to the Academy Facilitators.
