Leading to Sustain High Performance in

Policing
Monday, 02 March 2009 09:30 - 16:00

The Work Foundation, 21 Plamer Street, London SW1H 0AD

Introduction
Last year we talked about the need for a different approach to
leaders and leadership in policing. This year we have some
research led findings and practical solutions on offer from
organisations who tell what the results were for them.

The event in detail

Effective policing is one that exists and flourishes within a
continually changing social and political environment. The
National agenda emphasises the following:

A stronger focus on more serious violence

Greater flexibility and understanding for local partners to
deliver local priorities
Specific outcomes to increase community confidence
The need to reflect the increased threat to communities
posed by violent extremists.

It has been recognised nationally that the urgency and pace of

change has the potential to seriously affect the performance of
individuals and that the role of leaders to manage the
uncertainty and disorientation of change will require a high
degree of both the ability to bind people together to deliver a
common purpose (connective capability) and to develop a
highly skilled and capable workforce, confident and able to deal
with change (collective capability).

leaders and leadership in policing. This year we have some
research led findings and practical solutions on offer from
organisations who tell what the results were for them.
