Professional Portfolio Artifact(s) Reflections Cover Sheet

PLO 5: Apply ethical standards and professional behaviors that demonstrate understanding and knowledge, deepening the commitment to the early care and education profession. For this component of PLO 5 I have chosen these artifacts: Self Reflections NAEYC Code of Ethics Scenarios

I. Connection: how does this artifact demonstrate my beliefs, understandings and knowledge of the PLO?
The self reflections created in CHDV 210 demonstrate my belief, understandings, and knowledge that there is always room for improvement. I am committed to be the best preschool teacher that I can, which means I am open to change, constructive criticism, and advice. The NAEYC Code of Ethics Scenarios demonstrates my beliefs and understanding that children and families need to be respected. I understand that I must appropriately support development and learning for all children in their classroom. I need to have an open and honest relationship with the families of the children, and follow the code of ethics at all times.

II. Growth: how does this artifact demonstrate my growth in knowledge and skill?
These self reflections demonstrate my growth in knowledge and skill by being able to make goals for myself and identify what needs to be improved. There are so many areas to reflect upon in child development, the self reflections show that I have knowledge on reflecting on my own teaching strategies, on the activities implemented, and the environment. The NAEYC Code of Ethics Scenario demonstrates my growth in knowledge and skill by my ability to identify the issue or problem, understanding that I have responsibilities to the children, the families, and my coworkers, and I also show how I would handle the situations.

III. Application: how are you going to build on your knowledge and skills related to these artifacts in future teaching practices? (In other words, what are your next steps?)

I will continue to make goals for myself to improve my teaching techniques and strategies. I will work together with my team (future) and discuss ways for improvement or encourage any comments or suggestions. I will be open minded and flexible. I will build my knowledge and skill by studying and researching more about the code of ethics. It is a goal of mine to know and thoroughly understand them. I will make sure I am always following the professional code of ethics along with my own while subbing and of course once I get my own classroom.
