CHEMICAL REACTION:-

1) CuCO3 + H2SO4 + 4 H2O = CuSO45H2O + CO2

2) CuCO3Cu(0H)2 + 2H2SO4+6H20 = 2CuSO45H20+ CO2

EQUIPMENTS:-

1) H.D.P.E . tank
2) S.S Stirred vessel with heating arrangement ss 316
3) Centrifuge rubber lined or ss 316
4) Dryer ss 316
5) M.s tank
6) Open pans ss 304
PRODUCTION PROCESS:-

Dilute sulphuric acid (60%) is taken in a stirred vessel and copper carbonate is
added slowly

To the acid under stirring, at room temp. or vise versa . The ph of the solution is
monitored and

maintained at ph of 2.

The carbon dioxide gas which comes out of the vessel is scrubbed in lime water.

After the addition of copper carbonate is completed the reaction mass is allowed to
digest

And the ph is monitored the final ph is adjusted to 4.

The reaction mass is then heated to 70 degrees or maintained at , for some time.
The heat can be

external or if the reactor is insulated the exotherm can supply with the increase of
temp and then

transferredto Open or closed H.D.P.E tanks for further slow crystallization. Lead
strips are hanged in

the bath Which aid in crystallization.

The crystals are then centrifuged and the mother liquor is recycled back to the
crystallization tank

Or charged into the next batch or further concentrated to recover the residual
copper sulphate

The crystals from the centrifuge are dried or packed as is as per the nature of the
copper sulphate

Required.

EFFLUENT GENERATION:-

No liquid effluent is generated as all mother liquor is recycle back to recover the
product

GAS POLUTION;-

Only wood burning. For heating purpose if any.

Carbon dioxide formed in the the reaction is scrubbed in lime water to form calcium
carbonate

Which is a byproduct for the calcium chloride industry.
