EverReady #467 Battery Substitute For Portable Tube Radio Sets March 2012 Many portable tube radio

sets were designed to use a 67 Volt B battery. In this paper I will describe how I made a nice-looking substitute battery for the #467 type, using seven low-cost 9-volt transistor radio batteries. My total cost for seven heavy duty 9-volt batteries from BigLots was $3.33 plus tax ($1.90 per 4-pack). I found a paper on internet, A novel 63 Volt Battery for Tube Portable Radios, by H. Kristian Walter, dated November 1, 2004. He showed how to arrange the seven 9-volt batteries to fit within the envelope of the #467;

I followed his approach except for the enclosure. I need for my enclosure to provide the beveled edges like the original #467, so that the replica will fit properly in my Olympic #449 set and possibly other sets. I made parts using cereal box cardboard, sharp scissors, and Elmers glue. I used new snap connectors from BatteryCentralMall.com. The backing board for the snap connectors is just two layers of cereal box cardboard glued together. It is surprisingly stiff and approximates the original connector. I used Scotch Gloss Finish transparent tape to fasten batteries and parts together. My completed battery assembly is shown below prior to applying the inner paper wrap.

I used quadrille lined paper for the inner wrap. The Type A spacer is on the side closest to positive terminal. Here are drawings for the cardboard parts. The positive terminal is located on the right side of the snap connector template, as viewed from top of battery (see also the photographs of original battery).
