The basic in-car observation and behind-the-wheel session must be completed by your driver education provider or, for those registered for a parent taught course, completed by the Parent Taught Driver Education Instructor registered with DPS. For required behind-the-wheel instruction curriculum, locate and follow the behind-the-wheel curriculum from your course provider.

To obtain your driver license take this completed form with other required documentation to your nearest driver license office. For a list of required documents, please refer to: http://www.dps.texas.gov/DriverLicense/ParentTaught.htm. All minor drivers must take a driving test to obtain their provisional license. The vehicle used for the driving test must be able to pass an inspection where everything works properly, have a valid inspection sticker, valid registration sticker, and current insurance. I certify and endorse that the attached record is true and correct and my child/student/I has/have completed a minimum of 7 hours of in-car observation, 7 hours of basic Behind-the-Wheel instruction, and 20 hours of guided behind-the-wheel practice which includes at least 10 hours at nighttime.
