The Maple Tree by Santiago Sevilla

Maple tree, old maple tree, Deep in the woods, I visit thee: I am just one of many friends, Who at your side to rest intends. The deer, the bear, rabbit and hare, They all arrive at you to stare, In wonder to hear, what you should say Regarding luck, at future day. The Maple spoke all loud and clear: Animals, animals, to me all dear, The future yes, we should well fear, Men with chain-saws will arrive here, Maple syrup, least of their woes, Will cut us down, as soon, as goes!
