President: Christopher Montoya Active Members: 40 Purpose: The Hip-Hop Collective (HHC) at the University of Florida represents the many art forms (elements) of the hip-hop culture through programming designed to educate and inspire both students and the Gainesville community. HHC strives to build a community for its members through the medium of hip-hop and the values of Vibe, Culture and Respect. Our mission is to further the development of a culture that empowers artists both inside and outside of the circle. The foundational elements are Bboying/Breaking, Funk styles (Popping), Emceeing (Rhyming), Disk Jockeying, and Writing. Activities: Soul Cypher is the annual three-day hip-hop event thrown by The Hip Hop Collective. This event is a very renowned event, with people from the US as well as Canada having heard of it. Soul Cypher Day 1 typically features a 2 versus 2 break dancing battles at a venue off campus. The second day of Soul Cypher comprises of emcee battles, popping battles, as well as crew battles (8 v8 break dancing battles) on-campus. Day 3 of Soul Cypher is usually a BBQ day with food available to the public. Soul Cypher is a tradition that the Hip Hop Collective and UF is known for and is a very big name that attracts audience and dancers from all over FL along with other parts of the US. Professional graffiti artists will be drawing graffiti on a hand made mural which will be donated and displayed in the Gainesville community. This event promotes hip-hop in a family friendly environment and showcases the 4 pillars of hiphop. Hundreds of students has come out to this event in the past and is our biggest event of the year. The judges play an integral role of this event and most of the crowd comes out because of our prestigious judge line-up. We have worked with the Allocations Committee to drastically reduce the costs and we have reduced the number of judges. Proviso: This allocation will exhaust at the end of the fiscal year June 30, 2013
