GRAMMAR REPORT WRITING

REPORT WRITING
What is a Report? A Report is an orderly, objective message used to convey information from one institution to another or from one person to another in order to assist in decisionmaking or problem solving.

TYPES OF REPORTS
Reports are of many types but these two are of major importance .i.e. Investigative Report Progress Report

SIX BASIC UNITS OF A REPORT


A report has to be divided into SIX basic units namely: 1. Heading 2. Introduction 3. Discussion 4. Conclusion 5. Suggestions and Recommendations 6. signature

HEADING
Heading includes the following FOUR points: DATE: On which the report is written. FROM:- i.e.-- Name of the reporter TO:-i.e.-- Addressee to whom the report is sent SUBJECT: The topic and the focus of the report

INTRODUCTION
Introduction includes three points: Purpose of writing the report. Members of the investigation team. Period covered in the report. It tells about the procedure adopted in compiling the report.

DISCUSSION/ TEXT: Discussion/ text gives detailed information about the topic of the report. CONCLUSION: It sums up the discussion. Tabulation of the Data Tabulation of data, though not compulsory, is yet very impressive to do.

SUGGESTION & RECOMMENDATIONS: This is the last but a vital part of a report. SIGNATURE: Reports written as a subordinate may be ended with signature.
