I really cannot add anything to your reflection. You are right on target as to recognizing the work of all people involved in the educational program, as well as with the community. Great reflection. Field-Based Internship Reflection Form For Internship Experience Standard 1: Visionary Leadership; Standard 2: Instructional Leadership; Standard 3: Organizational Leadership; Standard 4: Collaborative Leadership; Standard 5: Ethical Leadership; Standard 6: Political Leadership Standard and Criteria 5.c Fosters and maintains caring, professional relationships with staff Level Secondary Time Spent 10 hour(s) Note

Briefly describe this field-based internship experience, including your specific role (1/2 page). My specific role in this experience was teacher, team leader, and coach. I built some very strong relationships at Carver Middle school during my time there. Aside from the relationships and reputation I built with the other teachers, I focused in on the other staff that helped run the school: para-professionals, clerical, nurses, AEA, counselors, custodial, and cafeteria. I made sure to greet them every time I saw them. It was a common interaction between myself and the custodian every day after school to ask how each other's day was going and how the classroom teaching is going. These small little daily conversations build a strong rapport and relationship with the whole building. I made sure to always address everyone by name. It was quite awkward sometimes for me to be collaborating in a classroom and another teacher addressing the custodian cleaning the room with "excuse me sir." I would always take the time to introduce the parties. Year after year the relationships grew stronger and respect was very mutual. There were a few instances where an adult staff member would approach me and thank me for greeting them a few days ago when they were not having the greatest day. It meant a lot to me to see smiles on everyone's face as I walked through the school running a simple errand. Reflect on what you have learned from this experience, from mentor discussions, and how you will use this learning in future administrative leadership roles (no more than 1/2 page). I learned that a simple greeting can make someone's day. My biggest takeaway from this experience is to promote professional courtesy. Parent's and visitors notice these little interactions when they stop in for their short visit. As a future leader I must remember to be on my game all day everyday because I may not know who is watching me walk through the school at all times. Professionalism starts outside the school with proper greetings and a smile. The climate and culture at the middle school was very professional during my time their. I will try to emulate the climate as a future leader. Mentor(s) Brad Schweppe The date approved by his/her lead mentor: 10/11/2012
