According to Merriam-Websters Dictionary, Metafiction is a fiction which refers to or takes as its subject fictional writing and its conventions. The prefix meta- is a Greek preposition that refers to anything that refers to itself. In other words, its a fiction that tells about the creation of that fiction. It attempts to make the reader aware of its fictional nature
and, sometimes, the presence of the author. Similarly, metafilm is a movie or a film about

the creation of a movie. The movie Living in Oblivion is one of the many examples of a metafilm. It is an independent film portraying the making a low-budget, independent film and the problems and complications that go along with it. The movie greatly shows the meta aspect of a metafilm; a film with in a film. The film is divided into 3 parts: Nicks dream, Nicoles dream, and the part where Nicks mother comes in. Because of this, the audience is made aware of its fictionality or fictional nature. The film was really difficult to grasp because of the sudden shifts, twists, and turns in its storyline; one part youre inside Nicks dream then all of a sudden, youll find yourself in Nicoles dream. But nevertheless, it was a good movie and definitely worth the time.
