Whiteland Community High School Mission Statement

The mission of Whiteland Community High School, in partnership with parents and community, is to educate students by providing a strong academic, career and social foundation through a rigorous curriculum in a safe and disciplined learning environment. Qualified, dedicated staff will challenge each learner to become a sensitive, critically-thinking, responsible citizen who is empowered to become a lifelong learner and a productive member of a diverse society.
Dear Parents and Students, Welcome to the Academic and Career Planning Guide. As students select classes each year, it is important to keep three questions in mind. 1. Which courses will best prepare students for careers they will find fulfilling and capable of supporting them? 2. Which courses will best provide students with the life skills needed to contribute to their family and their community? 3. Which courses will best prepare students to be responsible citizens? Although many young people are still uncertain, the areas they are considering have a great impact on the direction their schedules will take. Some careers require college degrees, some require being accepted into an apprenticeship, some involve programs at Central 9 Career Center, and some need other preparation. Each direction determines which classes students should choose while still in high school. Through the online registration process, students should work with their parents in selecting their classes for the following year. Students and parents can simply login to PowerSchool using the students username and password. Select the Class Registration icon at the top of the page and follow the online instructions. As students choose their classes, it is helpful to refer to the diploma and career information pages included in this Academic and Career Planning Guide. For long-range planning, the four-year planner worksheet located on the last page of this booklet is also useful. As always, students will meet individually with their counselors to finalize their schedules and make certain they are requesting all required courses. Finally, staff is hired and new textbooks are purchased based on student registration. Therefore, students and parents will have until June 1 to request schedule changes. After that date, except for situations such as a failed class or a missing academic requirement, schedules will not be changed. Please call the Guidance Office at 535-3189 if we can be of assistance through this process.
