Jae Hyun Ko Professor Bain-Conkins Writing and Rhetoric 2013-04-04 Visual Essay explanation The visual essay is focused

on the Greek-Roman Mythology, especially on the importance of gods on mortals. I started off with a few picture of ancient Greece and Rome relics that are being preserved to these days to just give a taste of an idea how Rome and Greece looked like back in the old days. Then, the image of whole Olympian gods proceeds to set the mood for the video. The part from the documentary comes with a few pictures to substantiate the thesis. After the introduction, the video delves more into the written plays based on myth. I used Odyssey as my first example since it contains many divine interventions that affect the human lives. To give a more vivid sense of how the gods intervened, I took a few scenes from the movie Odyssey that reflects my thesis. Along with the scenes, I also gave a brief explanation of what is happening in each of the scene with an italic style to give a feeling of narrator reading it aloud for the viewer. Then, since I only discussed about the Greek mythology, I brought up the play that is based on the Roman mythology, which is Aeneid. I used a sequence of time period of what is happening in the

book to make it easier to follow how gods made humans to do something and then undo something; Dealing with humans in such way shows human as a toy of the gods. For the color of the font, I used white for all of them since white is easily seen by the viewers than any other colors. Not only that, it also matches well with the color tone of my pictures. For the music part, I used a strong rhythmic music when I need emphasize the words or the pictures and used somewhat slow music when I give an explanation of the scenes in the Odyssey. Most of the pictures are retrieved from Google and the videos are from YouTube.
