Procedure
Day 1: 1. Anticipatory Set (5-7min) A. APK: Review and share a few Mindmeister mind maps from lesson before. 2. I Do Introduction (Direct Instruction) (10-15 min) Discuss the Fitnessgram testing areas and discuss the state performance standards are. Refer to CA Fitnessgram Performance Standards -Timed Mile, Push-Ups, Curl-Ups, Trunk Lift, Body Composition: Height & Weight, Sit and Reach test. Video Demonstrations can be found on YouTube Curl-Up Test Demonstration Explain that you will be practicing the Push-us and Curl-ups test with a partner today. 3. We Do (10min) With mobile devices or laptop; students will sign up for an account on Fleetly Fitness. Discuss the important of tracking exercise and how that will play into goal setting and exercise plans a little later. This is where students will keep track of their fitness and exercise for the unit. Provide about 2-3 minutes for students to look around the app. Next, allow for students to locate where to log in information.

On the projector, direct students to follow along: Go to LOG, at the top, locate TOP EXERCISES, and locate PUSH-UPS. Once students have reached that point, press play and watch the quick demo. (Students can use the app to watch demonstrations of many different exercises to check for correct movements and exercise techniques.) Students will partner up. One partner will complete as many push-ups as they can, while the other student is counting the amount of push-ups. When completed, record their score in the app by pressing the LOG button. This allows students to log their performance by the date and number of reps. 4. You Do (Rest of class time) Students will now switch partners and repeat the process with their partner. Students will then move onto the curls-up portion. Students may record their information under CRUNCHES. If there is time left, students may try another exercise of their choice and record results. Teacher will walk around and monitor students progress with additional information and redirection as needed. 5. Closure/Assessment: Students will respond on sticky note and place in a box or container before learning class. Question: Did your push-ups and curls-ups score meet he CA State performance standard? Record your score and explain why.
