Beaker Handle made of Teak (hardwood)

by Mehmet Emre Batopu

STEP 1: The handle of my favorite glass beaker was broken. Originally it was a weak plastic handle, not a big surprise that it eventually failed. So, I had this piece of beautiful teak wood laying around for a future handle project. I decided to use a piece of it for this handle. Firstly I traced the contours of the original plastic handle on the wood with a pen. I elongated the handle for a better grip and added some personal touches such as the finger grips..Then I cut the piece out using my multi tools mini saw.

STEP 2: Then I drilled a hole for the screw attaching to the metal bracelet. And I carved out a notch at the end of the handle to fit the protrusion on the metal bracelet connecting the beaker and the handle.

STEP 3: After some grinding and fine sanding the handle was finished. I applied some oil on the surface to bring out the grain and to protect the wood. Finally I assembled the handle with the new longer screw. My wife was quite happy with the result!!
