Learning Objectives Lesson 1: Instructional Objective(s) Criteria: The students will be able to list that the sun produces heat and light for the Earth in their science journal. 1-3.2 Recall that the Sun is a source of heat and light for Earth. The students are to learn the features of the sky according to the South Carolina Standards. My objective is a way for the students to list that the sun produces heat and light for the Earth to survive. The students are already aware of the earth needing the sun. This objective and standard is teaching more in detail of the knowledge of why the Earth needs the sun. Lesson 2: Instructional Objective(s) Criteria: Students will preform in a positive and safe manner in a simple scientific investigation. Indicator: 1-1.3 Carry out simple scientific investigations when given clear directions. The indicator is a SC Science Academic Standard. My objective includes having children conduct a simple scientific investigation that is also mentioned in the indicator. The students have never conducted a scientific investigation. The students do have prior knowledge of how to compare objects using nonstandard units of measurement. This knowledge helps the students when participating in adding the components into the mixture they are making during the scientific investigation. Lesson 3: Instructional Objective(s) Criteria: Students will recognize to, too, & two and the correct usage of the word in a sentence. Indicator: 1-3.5 Understand the relationship between two or more words (including synonyms, antonyms, and homonyms). The indicator was apart of a SC State Standard. The objective agrees with the indicator because the students are recognizing the relationship of homonyms to, too, and two. The only prior knowledge the students have with these homonyms is the simple recognition during reading. Lesson4: Instructional Objective(s) Criteria: Students will recall each basic need for plants to have energy and grow in their science journals writings and illustrations.

Indicator: 1-2.1 Recall the basic needs of plants (including air, water, nutrients, space, and light) for energy and growth. The indictor follows under the SC Science Academic Standards. Both the indicator and objectives are asking students to recall the five basic needs that plants need. The students were taught in Kindergarten what organisms need to stay alive (including air, water, food, and shelter) and all organisms go through stages of growth and change called life cycles. This prior knowledge helps the students make the connection of plants are organisms and have needs. Lesson 5: Instructional Objective(s) Criteria: The students will determine the compound of two words to form a contraction. Indicator: 1-3.6 Use structural analysis to determine the meaning of compound words and contractions. The objective and indicator both consist of the students forming contractions using two words. The students also had to determine what two words could form a contraction. The students had no prior knowledge of what a contraction is.
