Abstract

Synthesis of some quinoxaline2,3 dione derivatives and their evaluation as antimicrobial agents
Pragya sharma*and Prof. D.V Kohli Dept. of Pharmaceutical sciences Dr. H.S gour University ,Sagar, India Nitrogen containing heterocyclic rings is indispensable structural units for both the chemists and biochemists. Among the various classes of heterocyclic compounds quinoxaline form an important component of pharmacologically active compounds.Numerous quinoxaline derivatives are important as antibacterial, antifungal, anticancer, anti depressant and anti-inflammatory agents ,from this point of view and in continuation of our interest on the chemistry of quinoxaline it was of interest to synthesize some quinoxalinone derivatives with the aim of investigating their antimicrobial properties A series of quinoxaline 2, 3 dione derivatives were synthesized using various aromatic amines and evaluated for antibacterial and antimicrobial activity against three strains of bacteria (Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Staphylococcus aureus) and two strains of fungus (Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger) respectively. The antimicrobial activity of the compounds was assessed by disc diffusion method. All the synthesized compounds were in good agreement with elemental and spectral data (FTIRspectroscopy). All compounds have shown activity against bacterial and fungal strains.
