Pre Test Post Test

This graph shows the progress made by my students. As you can see, the blue represents the pre test scores and the red represents the post-test scores. During the pre test, six students did not meet the objective, which was simply raising your hand to vote on a topic. This means that twenty students met the objective and participated in the short activity. The post-test consisted of students visually representing the terrarium they built in their lab. They were asked to label each part of the terrarium and were given a grade of 1, 2, or 3, with a three being the best given. For the representation of the progress, I scored the students that scored a 2 or a 3 as Met. Two students did not meet the objective in the post-test and scored a 1. Twenty four students met the objective and scored either a 2 or a 3. Individuals: Student 4, my low student, scored a not met on the pre assessment and a 1 on the post assessment. Its important for me to understand the learning of this student because he did not score well, and this was my fault. I need learn more about the learning style of this student, because somehow I missed how he liked to learn. This shows in his score. I could have provided more choice in his assessments.

Student 8 scored a met on her post assessment and a 2 on her post assessment. This student enjoyed the lab, but was unsure of her artistic ability. I took a considerable amount of time telling this student that I was not looking for great artistic ability, I was looking for the parts of the terrarium represented in the drawing and labeling. She ended up doing fine, but took too much time drawing and did not label the parts like the directions stated. Its important for me to give this student some choice of an alternate assessment. Student 10 scored a met on her pre assessment and a 3 on her post assessment. This student had been in GATAS in elementary school and chose not to apply for the STEMS program at Westview Middle School. It is important for me to understand the learning of this student because I need to make sure that I am challenging her, therefore, keeping her engaged. Understanding the learning of each of these three students is important because, as their teacher, I need to know how to differentiate instruction to support their learning and give them the best chance to succeed.
