Tiffanie Boggs Karla Henderson Educ 230 20 November, 2011 IEP/IFSP Assignment I chose one of my own children for

this assignment and also chose ADHD. Her name is Tatiana and she is 7. If we would have realized early enough she would have needed an IFSP, but do to the fact that we did not catch it early enough she needs an IEP, because we can find out where exactly she is developmentally and how it affects her adversely. It will also provide a statement of measurable goals for us to work towards. The IEP will provide a visual display of her progress and we will see what services and supplementary aids we will receive on her behalf, we will also have an explanation of whether or not Tatiana will be excluded from any group activities or general education classes. Finally it would lay out whether or not special materials or spaces would be needed in her education. What an IEP must contain: Present levels of academic achievement and functional performance Annual goals Childs progress Special education and related services and supplementary aids and services Program modifications or supports for school personnel Extent, if any, to which the child will not participate with nondisabled children Individual accommodations Projected date, frequency, location, and duration

IEP process from start to finish: When determining IEP eligibility a child is identified as possibly needing special education and related services, then the child is evaluated by the appropriate agencies, eligibility is then determined by the findings; if the child is found eligible an IEP meeting is scheduled, during the IEP meeting the Individual Education Plan is actually determined, parents may voice their opinions in this meeting. Once determined the appropriate services are provided, after a time the childs progress is measured and then the effectiveness of the IEP is reviewed once a year. Finally ever three years the child is reevaluated to determine if the child still needs an IEP. Goals for Tatiana to complete Behavioral:

Not being so aggressive towards other kids o Conflict resolution o Increasing emotional intelligence o Roll playing Academic: Learning to focus on the multiple conversational threads that happen in class without losing the distinct conversational thread. o Biofeedback training to increase focus o Ritalin o Active learning (using stress ball, playing with pencils, etc) Tatiana needs to be assessed by an informal assessment, using unstructured assessment, and structured assessment techniques. Children with ADHD cannot sit and focus long enough to be assessed formally. Tatianas needs are not so severe that she does not need to be in special education classes; therefor she is in a full-inclusion setting.
