Rose Park Academy: Rose Park Academy is an academy that strives to provide quality educational programs for the entire family. In the academy, children, youth and adults in the Rose Park Community will be exposed to variety of subjects through fun and interactive classes: Rose Park Academy also offers university level classes (credit and non-credit) for parents and adults in our community. Youth Classes include Science, Language, athletics, health: Science: Physics of Flight: Using toy helicopters as a guide, students will learn the physics and math of flight. Students will have an opportunity to build model aircraft, experiment, and problem solve through this interactive class. Recommended Level: Grades 4, 5 and 6. Chemistry is for Girls: This is an introduction class to chemistry for girls. We will cover some of the basic fundamentals of chemistry through fun engaging experiments and activities. We will challenge the stereotypes of what chemistry is and who chemistry is fornot only those who wear white coats and work in a lab, but those who are curious and explore the world around them. Recommended Level: Grades 4-6. Biochemistry and Beauty: Through small group teaching and fun activities with cosmetics, girls in this class will learn about the chemistry behind the beauty industry. In addition, university students (female) will mentor the girls to promote careers and education in science. Recommended Level: Grades 4, 5, 6; AND 7-12. Health, Fitness and Nutrition: Anatomy and Physiology: Using real organs to learn, students will have an opportunity to dissect and study human anatomy and physiology. This interactive class will introduce students to careers in health

science and medicine. Recommended Level: Grades 1-6, Middle

School, High School and Adult.

Nutrition, Fitness and Zumba: Students in this class will learn the foundations to a long-term healthy lifestyle through nutrition and fitness education. The focus of this class is to create an up-beat atmosphere through Zumba; its time to strengthen your mind and body. Recommended Level: Adult.

Tobacco and Other Drug Prevention: Parents in this class will work directly with university students and faculty to learn methods for preventing drug use among youth and families. This course will include interactive presentations, discussions, and field trips.

Dance: Break Dance and Hip Hop: Students will have an opportunity to learn about the fun and competitive break dance and hip hop scene. This is an active and participatory dance class intended to build strength and improve dance method and form. Recommended Level: Grades 4, 5

and 6.
Language: English Language Classes: Students can choose between beginning and intermediate levels of English. Through this highly interactive and exploratory class, students will become comfortable and confident users

of the English Language. Adults can learn English with hands-on activities and field trips in the community. Recommended Level: Adults Spanish Language Classes: Students can choose between beginning and intermediate levels of Spanish. Through this highly interactive and exploratory class, students will become comfortable and confident users of the Spanish Language. Adults can learn Spanish with hands-on activities and field trips in the community. Recommended Level: Adults Pre-K Program: Early Childhood Program: The youngest members of our community have a place to call home on Saturday mornings. Students will learn the fundamentals of art exploration in this class. Recommended Level:

ACT, SAT, Honor and AP classes Support: The Westside Scholars: Through one-on-one interaction with university students and faculty, youth will get direct support for test preparation (ACT & SAT), Honors Classes Preparation, and College Preparation. Academic mentoring is also a highlight of the program. Recommended Level: Grades 6-12.

Athletics: Soccer for College: Youth will have a chance to play and practice soccer while working with university student athletes in learning about college preparation through sports. This class will focus on fundamentals of soccer and the pathways to college for student

athletes. Recommended Level: Grades 1-6 University Classes: University of Utah Classes: Rose Park Academy also offers University of Utah level courses (credit and non-credit) in partnership with the University of Utah College of Education and University Neighborhood Partners. The classes give parents and adults an insight to the issues impacting urban education. The classes are offered in academic Spanish and English language. Comunidas Unidas/Communities United is a an independent non-profit organization that strives to promote outreach programs in immigrant and refugee communities. Their mission is to eliminate ethnic disparities by promoting grassroots outreach, education, and capacity building, as well as advocating for long term policy change. They are currently doing two initiates know as Community Wellbeing and Community Organizing. Community Wellbeing: They have helped more than 100,000 immigrants and refugees and continue to provide culturally and linguistically quality health care services. Some of their programs include the following: Ventanilla de Salud / Health Booth Latina & Multicultural Breast Health Programs Prenatal and Preconception Program Nutrition & Obesity Program Community Organizing:They strive to unite individuals and organization in social justice advocacy to better the wellbeing of communities at large. They bring to the surface, problems and challenges faced by immigrant and refugee communities to better educated policy makers and community leaders for further reforms. They also help immigrants and refugees in knowing their rights and ways to be an active member of the society at large. Through different programs they helpe individuals and organizations acquire leadership skills to further

Their mission is to improve the access of healthcare for lowincome and uninsured families through community and school base clinics. Currently, Rose Park Community School has a school-based clinic that is funded by Intermountain Health care Foundation. The goal of the clinic is to provide quality health care for the students of Rose Park Elementary, their families and the residents of Rose Park. Financial Assistance: To further combat the financial obstacles communities encounter in receiving quality health care, IHC has in place different forms of Discounts for Uninsured Patients.

Uninsured hospital patients who do not qualify for other assistance programs (such as Medicaid, CHIP, etc.) receive an automatic 25% discount on their bill. These patients may also receive an additional 15% off their bill if full payment is made before service is provided (total discount: 40%), or an additional 5% off their bill if full payment is made within 30 days after service is provided (total discount: 30%).
