Biochemists
Core tasks A biochemist studies what living organisms are chemically made up of. While on the job you are responsible for preparing samples to test .You must observe and collect data from tests and experiments. You must be able to analyze different tissues and see if there are signs of disease or any other complications. Pursuing this further, if you choose to become a university professor, aside from teaching you will have to write research papers. Working environment Typically biochemists are employed by private research laboratories, hospitals, medical organizations, governments and universities. Work is generally done indoors in labs or offices. Sometimes work can be stressful due to deadlines or a specific set of specimens. Since youre dealing with the chemical compound of living organisms there is potential exposure to harmful chemicals. Generally biochemists work eight hours a week however, sometimes overtime hours and be required. Earnings At the beginning, a biochemist will earn around $35,000 a year. However, as years go by and experience matures they can earn up to $120,000 or more. Salaries are largely dependent on the employer, location and level of responsibility. Education The level of education required to become a biochemist is University level education. First you must have a bachelors degree in biochemistry or a related field. The bachelors degree usually takes 3 to 4 years to obtain. Having a bachelors degree would qualify you to be able to apply for entry-level and technician jobs. After that a PhD Is required for most research positions and to teach at a university. Programs you can take in University are biochemistry, chemistry, molecular biology, cellular biology and biology. Toxicologist
Core tasks As a toxicologist you will be conducting lab test to identify and analyze if substances are toxic or not. Once a toxic substance is determined, you will have to evaluate the level of toxicity. Occasionally you may need to help create or fix laws which control the use of chemicals in society. Some

toxicologists treat patients or animals that have been exposed to harmful chemicals.
Working environment Typically Toxicologists are employed by private research laboratories, hospitals, medical organizations, governments, universities, and drug and food industries. Majority of the work is performed indoors in a labs or offices. However occasionally outdoor work is sometimes required. Working hours vary depending on the work which is done. Earnings When starting out a toxicologist will earn around $25,000 a year. However, as years go by and experience matures they can earn up to $100,000 or more. Salaries are largely dependent on the level of education which has been obtained. Education The level of education required to become a toxicologist is University level education. To become toxicologists you must obtain a bachelors degree in toxicology or a related field. Once a bachelors degree is obtained a masters degree or PhD is required to hold more advanced and higherpaying positions.
