Literacy being taught Read From Seed to Plant by Gail Gibbons (Interactive Read Aloud) Students will be able to identify different text structures of nonfiction texts Model different forms of nonfiction structures including cause and effect, problem and solution, comparison and contrast, questions and answers, description and sequencing. Split class up into different groups to identify different structures of nonfiction texts. Meet back as a class to discuss. Students continue their independent nonfiction texts and identify what type of structure their book is by writing it in their response journals with an explanation. Review the types of text structures that were previously learned today. - Students will be able to write an informative text using sequencing. Teach and model a piece of informative text that uses the structure of sequencing using the SMARTboard. As a class, watch a video on the sequence of a butterflys life. Take notes to then create a flow chart as a class. Students will pick a topic of choice and research information from provided sources of the classroom, and create a flow chart.

Literacy being taught Form literacy circles with students (first day) Groups are heterogeneously grouped and students are able to choose what book they are reading. Introduce the book with a quick summary of each, and read one page from each book. Books to choose from- Wonder, The Giver and Twenty and Ten The concept of literature circles is explained to students. They are given the assignments each night depending on their given role in the group for that particular day. Students will become more acquainted with this process as time goes on. Students will read aloud to each other for a half

hour. I will go around to each group to see how each group is progressing. In days to come I will walk around to hear discussion and feedback from group members based on assignments from home. Students will take out their flow charts of nonfiction text and continue to finish them if they are not completed. I will explain to the students the next part in the writing process of putting the ideas into a rough draft. I will explain the structure of the essay. Students will continue to work on flow charts or rough drafts. I will conference individually with students at their desks to see the progress of students. I will conference to see where students can improve, the ideas of students, etc.
