Tech 8. Project 3: EVALUATE

I. Product Testing
A. Survey 1. Study the results your survey. Generally, who answered your survey? (Students, teachers, etc.) How many took your survey? 2. How did they test your product against the Design Specification? Describe the way or method that you used to make your audience evaluate your product. 3. Did they think that your product minimally, mostly or completely satisfy your Design Specification? Explain. A. Survey Post the link to the Summary of Results of your survey: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AnN6uMoJwIJdHlrLUxGei1Ra0w4RnB5aDdGNVdsc1E#gid=0 Discuss your answers to the questions (on the left) in a clear and concise paragraph. (Minimum 80 words) 6 students took the survey for my clock. As you can discover if you click the link above, our survey consisted mostly of questions with answers to choose from. We also had other questions in which the student can give its opinion on what he likes in the clock and what could be better. When we were told that we had to complete the project in pairs, me and my partner changed some elements in the design. Consequently, some parts of the Design Specification did not fit the new design/purpose of the clock. In our survey, we only mentioned the most important topics of the Design Specification (does it fit the purpose, does it show a Learner Profile Attribute). In our case, I believe it is not possible to answer this question because we didnt include many topics in our survey that related to the Design Specification. In general, the people said that the clock kind of served the purpose and showed the necessary attributes, but both of these should be clearer. B. Self-testing Discuss your answers to the questions in a clear and concise paragraph. (Minimum 80 words) I think that the new design did not completely relate to the original Design Specification, again as I explained in the previous question, we changed the design of the clock. Not only did we add and take elements from the original design, we also changed even the shape of the clock. But, mostly when it comes to the materials, I think the clock mostly does fit the Specification. We completed the project in the planned days, we used the planned materials and we used the Mozambican-inspired theme described in the Specification. I agree with the people that answered the survey. I think the clock reflected a Mozambican theme and it had a purpose/solved a problem but the Learner Profile Attributes reflected could be more clear, making the clock even better B. Self-testing 1. Use the same survey form to evaluate the product yourself. 2. Do you think that your product minimally, mostly or completely satisfy your Design Specification? Explain. 3. Compare your own evaluation with the evaluation of your audience. What are the strong and weak points of your product?

C. Final Product vs. Original Design 1. Did you follow your plan and chosen design? How does the final product compare with your original design? 2. What changes did you make from your original design? What materials, tools, techniques and other resources did you use to

C. Final Product vs. Original Design Discuss your answers to the questions in a clear and concise paragraph. (Minimum 80 words) I did not completely follow the plan of the original chosen design. The original design had clearer reflection of Learner Profile Attributes and served the purpose better. We changed many things from the original clock design. We changed the main purpose of the clock, which was to have little notes reminding me of events in my daily routine and we also changed the way the calendar was to be presented. We decided we needed to

D. Improving your product Discuss your answers to the questions in a clear and concise paragraph. (Minimum 80 words) I think that mostly I would change the fact that the calendar is presented in a pocket, instead of in an effective and helpful way, for example, in a way that you could flip the months of the calendar back. Not only would it have better fitted the purpose, it would have also improved the clock a lot. However we were not provided with enough classes and I think we would not have been able to access the necessary materials by ourselves.

D. Improving your product 1. What aspects in the design will you change to improve the product? 2. Describe the materials, tools, techniques and skills that you will use next time.

make these changes? 3. Why did you have to make these changes in your final product? 4. Did your product effectively address or solve the problem it was intended for? Why or why not? 5. Do you think your product is successful? Why or why not?

make these changes because we saw that we wouldnt have enough time to complete the project according to plan. The product was supposed to address two problems/purposes, using the key-words/drawings to remind of the things to do and the calendar to remember important dates. Due to lack of time, it only addressed one of the purposes, but not very effectively. Instead of being able to flip the months of the calendar, we had to make a pocket to put the months inside, which does not make the project as successful as it could have been.

E. Impact of My Product 1. What uses or benefits can your product offer to life, individuals, communities, society and/or the environment? How will it generally improve life? 2. Is it marketable? Can it be sold? Is it profitable? Why or not? 3. What are the possible issues, limitations, constraints, issues or negative effects of using your product to individuals, society and life in general? (Examples: Is it safe to use? Is it environment-friendly? Is it energy efficient? Etc.) 4. How can these issues be resolved?

E. Impact of My Product Discuss your answers to the questions in a clear and concise paragraph. (Minimum 80 words) Generally, the product created will bring benefits to people and it will be helpful, due to the fact that it is a clock, and clocks help people get to places on time. So, generally, yes it will improve life. The clock that I created was intended specifically for me, but I think it can be sold to any Justin Bieber fan that wants a Justin Bieber clock. Since there are a lot of Justin Bieber fans and they all want to decorate their rooms with Justin Bieber clocks, I think we would be able to gain much profit if we decide to sell this clock. Also, the clock is very safe and it is also environment-friendly due to the fact that it was almost completely built with recycled materials. Also, this clock is very appealing to look at, due to the colorful capulana and the Justin Bieber cut-outs, which will help people look at the clock even more so they will always know the time. The person who buys the clock will also be able to annotate important dates on the attached calendar. The only issue of this clock is that it has a very limited intended audience, due to the fact that not all people are Beliebers. Therefore, the only way to solve this issue is if the non- Belieber people dont buy the clock at all.

III. Evaluation of My Performance in the Stages of the Design Cycle

A. My Scoring Guide Create a score guide that you will use to grade your performance in each of the process of the Design Cycle.

Score: 3 Score: 5 Score: 5 Score: 3 Discuss the reasons for the score that you gave for yourself for each stage below. What are the strong and weak points of your performance? How can you improve your performance? (Minimum of 80 words for each stage.) My Investigate Stage wasnt very good. I I think I had a good performance when it I think I also did a good job in the Plan For the Create Stage I think I deserve a 3, explained the topic/problem, I had a came to the Design Stage. As was Stage. I followed every step I was which is okay. In general, in the creation mind map, but the AOI does not relate needed, I thought of three different supposed to and I answered every of my clock, I followed the steps I had properly to the idea/problem. possible designs for the clock I wanted to necessary question. I very clearly prepared in the Plan Stage. Of course, in I did complete the research, looking for create. Also, I appropriately created a described the materials I would need and order to complete the project on time, I innovative clock designs, different ways scoring guide and organized the different the respective quantities. I also wrote a had to ignore a few of the steps but I was of reflecting a Mozambican-inspired categories that I would use to evaluate clear list of steps I need to follow in able to submit the project in the themes, ways to use recycled materials each design, according to the Design order to complete the clock. I reflected respective deadline. I also wrote a to build the clock and different Specification. As I was instructed, I and decided the time I would need In process journal, according to what I had techniques/skills. I made the Design described the strong and weak points of order to be able to complete each step been able to achieve in the previous class Specification but I didnt do a survey for each design and I made a choice for of the plan (classes as well as work at and what I planned on achieving in the two reasons. First of all I have no idea which design I was using, followed by the home). After completing these tasks I next class. This process journal also how to make one and second of all, respective explanation. evaluated my plan, searching for possible included pictures, in which you can see because the intended audience was problems and arrangements I would my partner and I completing some of the specifically me. need to make according to these tasks described in the journal. problems.

Score: 4

For the Evaluate Stage, I tested my project according to the Design Specification I had created in the Investigate Stage. Unfortunately, the clock didnt completely follow the Specification, which lowered my score for this Stage. My partner wrote the survey questions due to the fact that I missed school that day. But, in general, I think we had an appropriate audience answering our survey. We also had enough people taking the survey, and in generally, we received good feedback. All of this is explained in more detail respectively in the Evaluate Stage.
