"Lord, I would like to know what Heaven and Hell are like." The Lord led the holy man to two doors. He opened one of the doors and the Holy man looked in. In the middle of the room was a large round table. In the middle of the table was a large pot Of stew, which smelled delicious and made the holy man's mouth water. The people sitting around the table were thin and sickly. They appeared to be famished. They were holding spoons with very long handles that were strapped to their arms and each found it possible to reach into the pot of stew and take a spoonful. But because the handle was longer than their arms, they could not get the spoons back into their mouths. The holy man shuddered at the sight of were well nourished and plump, laughing their misery and suffering. The Lord said, "You have seen Hell." They went to the next room and opened the door. It was exactly the same as the first one. There was the large round table with the large pot of stew which made were equipped with the same longhandled spoons, but here the people and talking. The holy Man said, "I don't understand." "It is simple," said the Lord. "It requires but one skill. You see, they have learned to feed each other, while the greedy think only of themselves."

Caring For An Aging Parent? Heres what you need to know at Tax Time.
Are you a Caregiver?: Age, income and living situation are the deciding factors for determining a caregiver for tax purposes. If your parent or parents are 65 or over, have less than $19,435 in income and are living with you, you can claim the caregiver amount. You can also claim parents under the age of 65 if they are dependent on you due to an infirmity. Support from afar: Even if you are providing support to your parent or parents, they have to live with you in order to claim the caregiver credit. Sending money to support them does not qualify. Caregiver amount: The caregiver amount was meant to encourage Canadians to help care for their parents or relatives at home. The federal caregiver amount is $4,402 for each dependant, which results in $660 in tax savings. There are also provincial caregiver amounts that will add to your savings.

Town of Nipawin Community Update

Partnering Local Business with the U of R

The Town of Nipawin has been working in partnership with the University of Regina. The Business Policy and Strategy course currently offered (January - April 2013 ) at the university is participating in cooperation with the students to provide some practical study opportunities. There are currently 38 students enrolled and it appears that 19 students are likely from other countries - mostly China but some from Africa and the Middle East. Over the past number of months the Town of Nipawin worked to identify possible Enterprises or Companies in the community that would benefit from the students work. The Projects are now underway as University has successfully partnered with 3 enterprises/organizations from the Nipawin and Twin Lakes District. This is proving to be a great opportunity to work on succession planning and export readiness strategies among many others. Each enterprises/organization was asked for the following types of information to be considered for the project: - Enterprise Description and History - Description of the owner/management team - Financial Information (Balance Sheet/Income Statement usually past 3 years - this information may be disguised prior to use for confidential reasons) - Products, Markets, Sales, Competitors - Size Up of their Environment - Resources and Capabilities - usually the number of staff & types of work; the facilities; core activities of the Enterprise. For the privacy & protection of the participating enterprises all students were required to sign confidentiality agreements and each company was required to review and approve each case proposal and suggests revisions, and signs a release. (If disguises are necessary due to confidentiality or sensitivity, information is changed to address this. The Town of Nipawin and/or the participating enterprises may make a contribution/case writing grant to the faculty to support the research.) A principal from each participating enterprise/organization was entered onto the U of R courses website the first week in January so they too could access readings, power points and cases (learn as we go) Each enterprises has also been conferenced via the internet to be able to listen to class discussions. Examples of past cases included: * choosing which country to enter and how to enter * wanting to retire and who will run the company * turning our ailing enterprise around (poor financial performance/declining sales) * growing the business - how and what do we need to do it * responding to our changing environment *becoming more innovative
we are very excited about having the University of Regina as a partner in local business! 8 international students from the university arrived on February 19th 2013 spent a couple days with two of our local business the goal is to develop a strategy that will ultimately prove to enhance the current operations of the business.
