    Vietnam faces challenges in balancing its gas supply and demand over the coming years. While Vietnam has over 690 billion cubic meters of potential gas reserves, proven reserves are only 358 billion cubic meters. Domestic gas production is projected to decline starting in 2015, resulting in gas shortages of over 10 billion cubic meters by 2025 if measures are not taken. Vietnam plans to import liquefied natural gas starting in 2015 to help meet demand, either by upgrading an existing terminal or investing in a new large-scale terminal after 2018. However, developing Vietnam's LNG import capacity and distributing imported gas will require significant investment, technical expertise, and establishing appropriate regulations and standards.
