This is an advertisement produced by Pan Am to advertise the new double decker Boeing 747. Caron, Christina. "Pan Am Flight Attendants Describe Golden Age of Flying." ABC News. ABC News Network, 23 Sept. 2011. Web. 04 Feb. 2013. This is an article on ABC written by Christina Caron. In the article, the reporter does interviews with a plethora amount of stewardesses who were employed by Pan American World Airways. Some of the stewardesses describe what it was like working at Pan Am during their career, while others explain how they believed that it was the best time of their lives. This article will be useful towards my History Fair project because it has given me a point of view from various women who lived the life as an actual Pan Am stewardess. It gives a general summary about the incident and how many people had died in the accident. The video will be useful towards my History Fair project because it has expanded my knowledge about Pan Am Flight 103. Cowan, Alison L. "Delta's Pan Am Dealings a Puzzle to Many." The article was published in 1991; ironically 5 days after Pan Am officially went out of business. It talks about Pan Ams bankruptcy, as well as remaining assets waiting to be purchased by Delta. This newspaper article will be useful towards my History Fair project because it talks about Pan Ams financial situations, as well as negotiations between Pan Am and other airlines to attempt to keep Pan American World Airways alive.

The map was created by R.E.G. Davies. By this time, Pan Am was providing air travel to all six continents. This map will be useful towards my History Fair project because it allows me to compare this map to two other route maps of Pan Ams destinations during different time periods. Davies, R.E.G. The map was created by R.E.G. Davies. Since the American government passed an Airline Deregulation Act in 1978, Pan Am was finally able to launch air service within the continental US. Pan Am had done this by acquiring Miami-based National Airlines in 1980. Davies. In 1929, through mergers with many Latin American and Caribbean airlines, Pan Am was able to serve the majority of the destinations available within the Caribbean Sea rim. This map will be useful towards my History Fair project because it shows me that Pan Am must have made enough profit within its first two years of operation, in order to expand within the Caribbean so rapidly. This is a picture of Juan Terry Trippe, Charles Lindbergh, and their wives. The photograph was taken in San Juan, Puerto Rico. This photograph is useful towards my History Fair project because this picture was taken while the Trippes and the Lindberghs were on a survey flight, which means that they were most likely discussing flight operations. This is a picture of a seaplane used by Pan Am at the Dinner Key terminal in Miami. This photograph is useful towards my History Fair project because the project does talk a little about the seaplanes that Pan Am used before the beginning of the use of jets like the Boeing 707. Reykjavik, Iceland. This is a letter from Charles Lindbergh, the most famous aviator at the time, written to Juan Terry Trippe, CEO of Pan American World Airways, to discuss possible expansions in the northern Atlantic region of Europe. The video is sort of like a computer generated 3D picture of how Flight 103 crashed into Lockerbie, Scotland. This video will be helpful towards my History Fair project because it gives me a visual image of how Pan Am Flight 103 could have actually crashed into the Scottish town of Lockerbie. Pan Am. Pan Am, 1975. 11 Jan. 2013 This advertisement is important because it was one example of an early advertisement that tried to persuade wealthy people to ride in the first class section with Pan American World Airways. This advertisement states that Pan Am was the first airline to have more advanced technology than any other airline.

The commercial is advertising its First and Clipper Classes, which are known today as the First Class cabin and the Business Class cabin. This commercial will be useful towards my History Fair project because it shows that Pan Am advertised their services to people of a higher socio-economic status. Pan American World Airways. The commercial is advertising how its convenient to travel on Pan Am. It gives examples of conveniences, such as connecting flights located in the same terminal, one boarding pass that can be used for all of your flights on a certain day. The spokesperson on the commercial also mentions that on Pan Am, you dont need to check in again for every connecting flight that you may have. This commercial will be useful towards my History Fair project because it shows that Pan Am wanted people to travel on their airline because of the convenience that it was.

The commercial is advertising people to fly on Pan Am because according to Pan Am, they say that they know what people want from an airline, since Pan Am flies all over the world. Airborne Dreams: Nisei Stewardesses and Pan American World Airways. Durham: Duke UP, 2011. Print. This is a book written by Christine Reiko Yano. The book mainly discusses the role of the Nisei stewardesses throughout Pan Americans existence. Nisei was a term used by Pan Am describing stewardesses of Asian American descent, but mostly Japanese American. This is a valuable source for our project because it describes how Niseis contributed to Pan Am by combining races and women into the same work environment as other people. 707 to London/Pan American. The documentary was produced in 2011 to talk about the real history of the famous airline. The reason for this was because in 2011, a series named Pan Am was being produced and shown on television. This documentary will be helpful to my History Fair project because the documentary included many details of the history of Pan American World Airways; throughout its foundation in 1927, to its bankruptcy in 1991. It also included interviews from pilots, stewardesses, Juan Trippes assistant, Kathleen Clair, and Juan Trippes son, Ed Trippe. "Boeing 747." PBS. PBS, 1995. Web. 08 Jan. 2013. This website was helpful understanding how the Boeing 747, a modern day time plane made by Pan Am, is helpful and some extra basic information on the plane itself. One thing I learned during my research about the 747 is that it is the most recognized commercial jet airliner in the world. It is so successful that four different versions of the 747 have been produced over the past three decades. The Boeing 747 is 150 feet wide. An interesting fact about the 747 is that its economy section alone is longer than the Wright Brothers first flight at Kitty Hawk. During this point in the project I wanted to learn about one of their planes, so I researched on the B-314. This website site was very good for teaching me more about this plane. Well Pan Am only made 12 planes of this model. The Boeing 314 was the largest, most long ranged, and most luxurious flying boat. During World War two the military acquired all of the b-314 planes for war purposes.

This website was helpful understanding about one of their airplane the Boeing 314. The Boeing 314 is a flying boat which gave its name because the boat landed in the water. Juan Terry Trippes goal was to provide mass air transportation for the average man at rates he can afford to pay. The Pan Am headquarters was built in Miami and called the Dinner Key. This is a book written by Robert L. Gandt, an author who used to be an aircraft pilot for Pan American World Airways. In this book, the author tells all about what it was like to work at Pan Am, both from his own of view, as well as from other colleagues. He also discusses the history of Pan Am, from its creation by Juan Trippe, to its tragic demise. This book is a valuable source to our project because it explained everything about Pan Am in the best way possible. "History of the Airplane." Wright Brothers Aeroplane Co. This is a website developed by the Wright Brothers Aeroplane Company that dedicates to the history of the airplane. It talks in depth about the Wright Brothers and how they made the first flight ever to happen. It also gives descriptions about how people would try to build wings on themselves in order to attempt to fly. The website also talks about how the British were involved in trying to build the first aircraft. This website will help me towards my History Fair project because the website has given me a lot of background knowledge about the history of the airplane before Pan Am was invented.

This building was built in 1963 in New York and it is located on 200 Park Avenue. Many New Yorkers dislike this building because it blocks the view on Park Avenue and it has been criticized as cheap quality. Something interesting I learned was that Pan Am sold the building to the insurance company MetLife in 1981 for $400 million. The design of the building was inspired by a never built project from Le Corbusier and by the slender Pirelli Tower in Milan. This project was originally called Grand Central City, but it was renamed in 1960 after its main tenant, Pan American World Airways. "Pan Am History: The Fall of Pan Am." Passengers were scarce; Pan Am was flying empty planes. Pan Am found itself unable to pay its employees. The only option was sell what it still had. Pacific routes were sold to United Airlines; Atlantic routes were sold to Delta and American Airlines. Finally the whole airline was sold to Delta. Pan Am's WorldPort at JFK airport in New York was created into the Delta Flight Center after the sale of Pan American World Airways to Delta. Pan Am created a plan for a Restructured Pan Am with routes in the Caribbean and South American but after funds were depleted the plan ceased. PBS. "Boeing 707." PBS. PBS, 2012. Web. 07 Jan. 2013. This website was helpful in understanding the Boeing 707. From my researched on this website I learned that the Boeing 707s first flight was December 20, 1957. Public Broadcasting System, 2012. Web. 07 Jan. 2013. This is a website made by Chasing the Sun, a page by PBS. Chasing the Sun is a page that was made by PBS that mainly talks about aviation history. The article about Juan Trippe on this page is mainly a biography of his life. This website will help me on my History Fair project because it gives a lot of information about Juan Trippe, and how Pan Am was his vision to provide mass air travel.
