Replacing a fiber channel tape drive on HPUX Overview: There are 3 basic steps to replacing a fiber drive.

The Storage SAN team will need to zone the new drive. The Unix team will need to clear the OS reservation on the servers that share the drive. They will also need to create new device files and pass that information to the Storage BUR team. The Storage BUR team will need to reconfigure the drive in NetBackup using the device file inforation. Storage SAN team: 1. Before the drive is replaced, find the switch port the drive is using. The drive will be zoned using the drive name, the Storage BUR team will provide the drive name. 2. After the drive has been replaced, find the WWN name on the port, modify the alias for the drive with the new WWN and rezone for all servers sharing the drive. Unix team: 11.11 1. find device id that has disappeared by grepping for vmunix in syslog, number such as 0x620e13. 2. use /opt/fcms/bin/fcmsutil /dev/tdX or fcdX to find which device attached to 3. use fcmsutil /dev/fcd3 replace_dsk 0x620e13 to reset 4. do an ioscan fnC tape to find the new device file and forward to the Storage BUR team 11.23 and 11.31 1. In the syslog, find the vmunix message generated when the drive is replaced and note the device id. 2. Run ioscan, then insf e 3. Syslog will now show the legacy lun path, for example The legacy lun path (b 90 t 5 l 0) 4. It will then show the command to run scsimgr [-f] replace_lef_dsf D /dev/rdsk/cxtydz. Make the substitutions using step 3 and run scsimg 5. do an ioscan fnC tape to find the new device file and forward to the Storage BUR team. Storage BUR Team: 1. Use the NetBackup device configuration wizard to update NetBackup with the new drive. 2. Verify that the drive is using the device files furnished by the Unix team and that it is working properly.
