Child's Developmental Progress

This form describes your child's developmental progress in achieving four broad desired results for all children:

Children are personally and socially competent Children are effective learners Children show physical and motor competence Children are safe and healthy

Your child's strengths include...

Jay accurately compares himself to others and he is learning to identify his own thoughts and feelings. He is starting to characterize himself positively in his own work and he is very good at demonstrating his concerns He is getting a lot better at taking turns and abides by the rules the majority of time. Jay does show preference for certain classmates but he cooperatively plays with all of the children . He takes roles in
for others feelings.

play with other children Jay also does a good job at expressing his desires or needs about a conflict and follows complex instructions well Jay is very good at using complex language to describe, predict, and explain events We have also noticed that Jay likes to engage himself in literacy activities, which is absolutely fantastic Jay also shows signs that he comprehends some of the main characters and events of text Another one of jays strengths is that he is great at thinking about strategies for solving problems Jay can also recall and communicate events that happened the day before He has a very active curiosity, he can use any materials to create what he wants Jay can count up to thirteen correctly, can solve simple addition and subtraction problems and can describe characteristics and differences of several shapes As far as gross motor development, Jay participates in extended physical activities and has good coordination along with balance His fine motor skills are up there with gross motor, he is very good at manipulating his fingers I am also glad to inform you that Jay independently takes care of some of his basic needs Areas your child is currently working on include... Even though Jay has improved a lot, there are a couple of areas that we are still working on. Even though he is able to express his needs we are still working on impulse control

We are also working on helping Jay notice and be aware of the diversity in himself and everyone else We are also trying to help Jay build relationships with adults along with friendships with his peers Like with impulse control, Jay needs a little more help with sharing. We want him to be able to share without having
to be told to do so Even though Jay is a very good listener and has a wide range of vocabulary, we have to work a little more on expanding his sentences. Like I mentioned earlier, Jay takes the initiative when it comes down to literary activities but he does need a little help to understand how important print is and how it is organized Another as aspect that needs some work would be his phonological awareness, along with his letter and word knowledge and his writing Now, Jay is very curious but we need to work on him continuing to work on his activities even if they become challenging A few other areas that need just a little bit more work would be classification, measurement, his personal care routines and personal safety. Jay is a very energetic and bright young boy and with a little help from the both of us, I know he will surpass the expectations that we set for him We (teachers, caregivers, families) can help your child learn and develop in the program by... Some ways that we will be helping jay in the classroom will be by not just talking about the importance of learning to control our impulses but also modeling them for the child. We will also be going over diversity and talking about how differences are a positive thing. Some other things that we will be doing in the classroom will be trying to help children understand the importance of building relationships with adults. We will be using a persona doll during one classroom activity. During this activity we will encourage the children to take turns and to talk about a time when they were left out of something and someone didnt share with them. They will have a chance to use their words and to talk about how this particular event made them feel. In the class we will also be going over words and the sounds of words almost daily during large circle time. To help the children acknowledge the importance of text, every time a book is read to each individual child, we will take the opportunity to talk about how you hold the book and which way you read the words. In order for us to help Jay with persistence we will try to find activities that he really enjoys and little by little make them tougher. That way he can work at his own pace and he will be intrinsically motivated to participate in subjects he likes. During the entire school year, we cant stress enough the importance of washing our hands and being safe. We will also have certain activities to reinforce these concepts like bringing in firemen.

You can help your child learn and develop at home by...

First and foremost we have to work together so that we both stay on the same page with Jay. But to assist Jay with his impulse, you can reinforce what we teach him here by letting him know how important it is for him to use his words when he has any problems. If you have other children at home them you can start by giving them all a reasonable time to take turns. Like if you own a computer or they all like a certain toy. You can also take any opportunity to talk to him about words and their sounds. For example, if he doesnt know the name of something, help him to figure it out and remember it for the next time. Also, if you read to Jay, then you could take that opportunity to talk to him and ask him questions, not only related to the text, but about books in general. Lastly, you can try to talk to Jay about germs and how to prevent them. Like whenever he gets sick, let him know the process.
