level: 3 and 4 AUSVELS Level: 3 and 4 Lesson Title: Respect Quilt Lesson Duration: 1 hour Lesson Aims At the end of this lesson the students will have defined respect and created a word quilt to represent this. Students are brought down to the carpet area to discuss the word respect and what they think it means. As a whole

class we will brainstorm words that represent or link to respect and write them on the board. Teaching strategy/Learning Activities Conclusion /Closure Assessment Strategies Students are given a patch, a piece of paper on which to design a tile relating to the word respect to be added to the quilt. They can decorate it however they like as long as the word they have chosen is prominent. Students combine their patches on one large piece of cardboard to create a quilt which will be hung on the wall for future reference. Observation, roaming, completed patch.

Grade 3s are invited to sit somewhere where they can see the interactive whiteboard and view the sample portfolio. They are told what information is expected to be included, and any questions are answered. Students get a planning sheet each and may sit anywhere to work on filling out the required fields.

Assessment Strategies

When students have completed their planning sheet, they place it in their best work folder for future reference. If computers are free, they may start making their portfolio in powerpoint. Observation, roaming, completed sheet.
