Thomas Nguyen Jamieson Elementary Slave Report After all my research, I have learned many things about slavery.

With all the information that I have learned, I conclude that the time of slavery was a time of both prosperity and chaos. I believe this because during the time of slavery, the economy was very prosperous and many inventions were made. Yet chaos occurred because it was unmoral and absurd for the Europeans to make the African Americans to do all the work while collect in the profit. So the African Americans and righteous, bold Europeans, those were against slavery fought against the other Europeans, this is where chaos struck Slavery lasted for 245 years and during those years there were a lot of innovations that made life easier and relaxing for the Europeans. During this time the white colonist had money in their pockets, in fact they had a lot it, and with Eli Whitneys cotton gin, much more profit was made. And according to National Geographic Slavery helped build world economy which is a big benefit to slavery. Besides the cotton gin many other inventions were made like the evaporator for refining sugar which is still used today in the production of many products like soap. Benjamin Bradley, a slave had developed a steam engine for a war ship but due to him being a slave could not patent his work. Thomas L. Jennings, a tailor invented the dry cleaning process. So many things during the time of slavery were very beneficial, while some STILL are beneficial to people, like Jennings dry cleaning. Not only was it beneficial physically with new inventions and economically with profit, it was also beneficial religiously. This is because as the African American slaves lived on the plantations they adapted to the European religion, Christianity. They Africans also found the stories of the bible inspiring and motivating. With this new religion they sang new songs such as slave songs, religious songs, and recreational songs. In one of the slave songs, Hoe Emma Hoe is about the slaves working extremely hard, the punishment of getting the overseer mad, the overseer not working as hard as the slaves, and the master selling the slaves and taking friends away from each other. These songs gave slave the right to say what they feel without getting punished for it. Though many things were beneficial, I would not call the time of slavery an era of renaissance. This is due to renaissance meaning rebirth, yet slavery was not something new and instead of rebirth, many people were killed in the time of slavery. The time of slavery made the people class people of different skin color as inferiors and allowed then to downtrodden people that are no different from themselves. The time of slavery also led to racism, prejudice, segregation, and the Jim Crow laws. From this point I have stated that the time of slavery was good to the economy, to us today, and to the slaves religiously, yet slavery had a bad after math because not only was it unfair to Africans during the time of slavery but after the time of slavery they had to segregation, prejudice, racism, and the Jim Crow Laws. So the time of slavery allowed society to flourish but it also allowed society to turn from each other.
