J Macias 12/4/11 Imperialism in Africa 1. For this project there were many things that I was asked to do.

The first thing we had to was to research about Imperialism in Africa. We were all in groups where we had to complete six essays about questions that were provided for us. We had to explain our answers for the questions with our essays, if one of our teammates did not turn in the essay then no one would. After the essay we had to take a picture that represents what we had in our essays. The picture had to show two different forms of imperialism. The entire group had to be in the picture. 2. During the project the following GLPOS were completed, investigating the world, recognizing perspectives, and communicate ideas. I investigated the world using a variety of sources for research. Also, I used my own research for the essay. I recognized the perspectives of a group of people by reading their own words and experiences. Most of what I had for the essays were from actual people who wrote about the time. I communicated ideas by making an original media photo. The picture was thought of and made by the students. I was able to complete three out of four GLPOS with this one project. 3. I learned how Belgium had control over the Congo River and the wrath they brought upon the natives. The Berlin Conference is what made Africa lose most of its resources and control over to the Europeans and had nothing for themselves. The Africans had just barely gotten back their lands from the long ruling Europeans and have almost nothing to themselves. Most of what the Europeans had wanted were the resources that came with the land and that lead to bringing even more countries to wanting control. I read about how rich Africa used to be and how there were so many precious territories lost. There were also some things such as segregation that led to bringing discrimination on the Africans, even though it was their land. There were also things such as religion that was forced upon the Africans. 4. If I got another chance to the project I would have planned thing better. Some of the times where I was with my groups we were much unorganized and had very bad planning. Also, the picture could have gone better. In the picture I would have made the props more realistic and easier to read, they were crudely made. The light in the picture made it hard for us to pose and get the picture we actually wanted. The essay was good but I only wish that I could have used more sources. The only sources that I used were the ones provided by my teacher, though they were all that we needed, but there could have been more to my research.
