Target Goal #1: Purpose: Increased use of project-based learning tasks including the use of rubric-based assessment to promote student learning To increase students ability to apply mathematical concepts to real-world situations To increase student motivation and engagement by providing tasks relevant to their needs and interests To challenge students to employ higher-order thinking To prepare students for upcoming end-of-year assessments Incorporation of at least one problem-based learning task per unit of material Development of detailed rubrics for each task to assess student learning Research of previously developed tasks that may be adjusted to meet the needs of my particular set of students Collaboration with other educators to discuss task-selection and effectiveness Class discussion at the start of the school year on what project- based learning is, why it is relevant to students, and how they will be evaluated

Increased communication with family members of students To establish relationships and trust with parents/guardians and their student To encourage familial involvement in student learning To increase student motivation to learn Introduction letter sent home to parents/guardians recollected with signature confirmation to guarantee letter is received At least 2 calls home per week (alternating students) mentioning positive behavior the student exhibited that week Letter to parents/guardians inviting and encouraging their attendance to open house with signature confirmation to guarantee letter is received Phone call to all parents/guardians inviting them to attend the first parent-teacher conference Phone call home to each household two days before major assessment to guarantee parents are informed of the assignment, to monitor student progress, and to assist students with any individual questions.
