GREEN STRONG HOME BY LOCAL BUILDER CERTIFIED ENERGY STAR

KINGSLAND, GA, NOVEMBER 25, 2008: W. H. Gross Construction

Company has built the first Energy Star Certified ICF (insulated
concrete form) home in Kingsland, GA. This home is now completed
and available for purchase in the Brighton Lakes neighborhood
located on Haddock Road between Lowes and St Marys Rd at exit 1.
This home was built in October 2008. The Green Strong Home has
a HERS index of 66; making this home 44% more energy efficient
than any standard new construction on the market today.

ICF’s are stay-in-place formwork for energy-efficient, cast-in-

place reinforced-concrete walls. This construction provides an
insulating value of R-50. The forms are interlocking modular
units that are dry-stacked (without mortar) and filled with
concrete. Reinforcing steel (rebar) is added before concrete
placement to give the resulting walls structural strength;
capable of resisting 200 mph winds (category 5 hurricane). After
the concrete has cured, or firmed up, the forms are left in
place permanently for the following reasons:
• Thermal and acoustic insulation
• Fire Protection
• Space to run electrical conduit and plumbing
• Backing for gypsum boards on the interior and stucco, brick, or
other siding on the exterior
Foam insulation in the roof adds to the overall energy savings
of this home.
